I'm currently having an argument on Pork Talk. They're convinced the payments began in 2006. I beg to differ, as I'm pretty sure we were in receipt of them after our one year in the Greed League. Anybody help to confirm either way? Thanks.
They were nowhere near the size they are now, but we received them until 2000. That's why everything went down the shitter after the play off defeat.
from wiki The Premier League distributes a small portion of its television revenue to clubs that are relegated from the league in the form of "parachute payments". Starting with the 2006–07 season, these payments are in the amount of £6.5 million over the club's first two seasons in lower leagues, although this rose to £11.2 million per year for clubs relegated in 2007–2008.
Been going since it's inception although the amount has increased dramatically over the years http://www.onebooker.com/en/2010/09...-competitive-balance-within-the-championship/ Season Parachute Payment (£m) 1992/93 0.75m 1993/94 0.74m 1994/95 0.43m 1995/96 0.44m 1996/97 0.97m 1997/98 1.49m 1998/99 1.74m 1999/00 3.65m 2000/01 3.07m 2001/02 3.95m 2002/03 4.75m 2003/04 5.14m 2004/05 6.57m 2005/06 6.46m 2006/07 6.48m 2007/08 11.56m 2008/09 11.76m 2009/10 12.37m 2010/11* 16.00m
That statement in no way proves it started in 2006. We got them, but it was only something like a £1m a year.
i've seen that thread merlin,,,which user are you..? i had to have a look after it was posted on here about what they were saying about mido........i've got to say they are the most arrogant t wats ive heard(or read),,,it goes beyond banter,,,i also didnt realise how little they have actually won untill i looked on google,,,all this massive club boll ox,,,you get that lot on the back foot and all you get is abuse, they've no answer to you....propper tossers
I like how they (want to) believe that there was some morality behind the fact that they never went into admin and waited eleven years to write off all that debt.
exactly,,and the 'club' never wrote off the debt,'arrys mate did,i've read an article on line where howard wilkinson says how close they were to going bust,,,and without milan they'd be well and truely shafted... then the fans are there going on about it like nothings wrong......david hirst was on the telly earlier on this season saying how they tried to keep up with the jones' and how it very nearly went wrong....they've been a very lucky club..their fans just wont have it tho'...30 million is the figure they owed according to a bbc website.
