Im on a stag do/40th at the weekend. Is it any good?. Any recommendations? Were going to try and take a game in whilst there as Hamburg are at home Saturday. Im sure theres some link between some Barnsley fans and St Pauli fc, which is close but they are away.
Any recommendations or ideas will be well received.

    No

BUT, I have had three 'lads weekends' in Germany over the last 4 years and each one has been a great trip. Hannover, Dusseldorf and Frankfurt. You'll have a good time.

Not sure about the links with St Pauli, but Shalke have their players tunnel represent their mining heritage. Always thought Oakwell should do something like this.

    Have a great trip.

A great city but nothing like it was 25 years ago. But the Reeperbahn is the place to be in the evening. Sadly the beers are overpriced in this part of town and there are plently of people wanting to part you from your hard earnt both legally and illegally. BUt all that said you will have a great night. If you can get tickets for HSV then do so, German football fans are as passionate as in UK. St Pauli are a cult club run by the fans but HSV are the bigger richer neighbours. I am now showing my age when I tell you that I watched HSV in the late 70's when Keegan was playing for them :p

    I'm there this weekend too.

Plenty of tickets left for the game that weekend too https://ticketing.hsv.de/default.php

Take a stag party in the away end and you will double their attendance, Hoffenheim have a very small following.

Contact Yorkshire St. Pauli on the twitters. We stayed at the hotel next to the millerntor but tbh we stayed away from the Reeperbahn. Tourist trap. Probably a natural choice for a stag do though

If you do go to the match I would recommend visiting Tankstelle bar before the game, this is where we ar eheading, it is a HSV fan club near the Reeperbahn.

A tour guide I once read.... more than likely on ere... said there are loads of scantily clad women carrying brollies. They like coming back to hotel rooms.

I was there for my stag do a couple of years ago. On World Cup final weekend (how about that planning!). The Reeperbahn has plenty of nightlife and the locals are all really friendly and up for a laugh. If you want a bit of a 'touristy' thing to do give the beer bike a go. That's far easier if you're pulling pints and playing DJ than peddling mind.

We went to a beach bar type thing during one of the days. Not the cheapest but it's quality if the weather is nice.

Long story short. Plenty to do and the beer is good.

Been there a couple of times and it's a far more up-market city than you'd think. The Reeperbahn is actually a dual carriageway and not the back-street alleyway that you'd expect. There's as many canals as there are in Amsterdam and a couple of lakes bang in the city centre. There are some decent up-market bars on the lake if you want it less rowdy than the Reeperbahn. I'd recommend a day pass for public transport (About 8 euros) which covers the underground, tram, bus and ferry. Hamburg ground is a fair way out of the city so you'll need to catch the Tube if you go there. It's a modern ground with a standing section behind each goal. Although St Pauli are less successful, they seem to be the "Athletico Madrid" of Hamburg in that they tend not to have so many "plastics" following them. Don't know why, but there seems to be a huge Portuguese presence down by the river with loads of Portuguese restaurants & bars. There's also the place where the Beatles were discovered down at the bottom of the Reeperbahn.

Free travel to/from the stadium included with HSV tickets too, so no need for a day ticket on Saturday.

YES. we went on stag do a couple of years back, about this time, or maybe early april. It was cold and snowing

We went for four nights. it was 3 too many. We all laugh now about how bad / awful it was. About 30 of us went and if you asked anyone of them they would say Hamburg is the worst place on earth.

Although to be fair it isn't really its the lad who booked it who was at fault. They main city of Hamburg is a lovely place with nice bars. half of us were booked into some ex brothel **** hole. while the other half were in a much worse place further down the road. But all of us were in Reeperbahn.

Reeperbahn is a place in hamburg where you would normally go for the night as part of a stag do, not spend 4 fecking nights. Its the red light district and an absolute sh1thole. Its hard not to have a laugh when theres 30 of you and we did make it crack, but that place was so depressing we were all ready for home after 2 nights. Place was full of tramps, homeless beggers, prossies grabbing hold of your every 5 yards down the road.

We got a bit split up one night and there ended up about 6 of us going into a night club. The bouncers told us they would let us in but to stick together for non of us to go to the toilet etc alone.

We did spend a bit of time in City and it was really nice, but as we were based elsewhere we spent most our time sat in some **** hole local bar.

So if you are stopping in the main city and sure it would be much different and reeperbahm would make a great night out, just not a place you want to wake up in :)

Reeperbahn is a street in the district of St. Pauli. I think that bouncer may have been taking the p*ss out of you.

It's not to everyone's liking though. If you know where to go within Hamburg and the St. Pauli region then it's a good night out, the sex shows and strippers don't interest me in the slightest.
