That would be the evil dictator who delivered his country from the control of the US mafia. The mafia who were using a puppet dictator to run the country like a private money making scam? Maybe you should take a trip to Cuba and see what the people there think of the US and whether they preferred Castro.
Best way to judge Cuba - is escape from the tourist traps - then go shopping for something other than rum or cigars. There are better options to run a country other than between a despot and the Mafia. A brilliant country just waiting to happen - let's hope it does now !!!
Out of interest, do you actually go to Oakwell? You never comment on the football and admitted recently that you hadn't been in the town centre for a year. If you have no interest in Barnsley FC then why not just post on some politics site. Few on here agree with you and those that do are clearly bonkers.
I travelled the length of it last year by bus. It is a mess. And I tend to agree. But 60 years of vindictive US sanctions have more than helped to cripple it.
Another piss-poor, ill-informed attempt to criticise the BBC. Bravo. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
In 1959 Castro and Che Guevara kicked out of Cuba the Donald Trumps and Nigel Farage's of this world, then returned Cuba back to the people, in 2015 America under Obama restored diplomatic ties with the country, Trump blowing his trumpit criticised these ties and it looks like he'll cut Cuba off again, after spending 2 holidays in Cuba and talking to the people I know they'll not give a toss about Trump and his right wing *****. And as for Thatcher "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead". As for the BBC its an icon of Briton at its best.
No doubt they wanted rid of the mafia and Batista but somehow doubt they wanted to live under a repressive dictatorship for 60 years.
Oakwell isn't in the town centre is it? Most people in the USA don't agree with you coastal "progressives" either.
the bit of BBC news I saw, dedicated as much time to the celebrations of ex Cuban nationals in Miami, so Gloria's accuracy is suspect as usual. One man's hero, is another man's despot, and so giving Castro a miss. But anyone who thinks Thatcher deserves any form of respect, has no business setting foot in this town.
Odd that you used that title for your post as the BBC refused to play the song when it entered the charts after Thatcher died. They thought it disrespectful. Instead they ran a news story explaining why some people in the country (and they stressed is wasn't a universal belief) still felt very aggrieved after the policies that were implemented under Thatcher's government. The BBC covered the funeral of Thatcher in a very respectful manner. I don't know enough about Castro to comment. I know a lot about the media having a degree in it and then working in it. I thought their coverage of her death, a person who is extremely divisive, was balanced and respectful. They had a tough job and I thought they did it well. And I've never worked for the BBC so I have no bias.
For the avoidance of doubt Gloria. Anyone on this site who thinks Thatcher deserves any degree of respect has no understanding of Barnsley, its history or its communities. I think you may be looking for the Britain First site young man.
I'm not a fan of Thatcher but she was democratically elected, she banned promotion of homosexuality in schools, the left went mad, Castro put homosexuals in forced labour camps, the left said nothing, I'm just trying to point out the hyprocrisy of the left. This is them: Right-wing dictators bad, left wing dictators great. Trump refusing to to say he wouldn't challenge election result is "threat to democracy", Clinton is challenging election result. White people who persecute homosexuals bad, brown people who do it OK. Whites can be racist, other races can't. Blacks and Asians can be proud of their race, whites can't. Labour politicians saying poor people shouldn't send their children to selective schools but it's okay for us to do it. And on and on.
I don't think someone from the U.S. can lecture me on where Oakwell is, and no I haven't been regularly over the last few seasons as I can't afford it, not that's any of your business, go and watch the Seahawks.
