I feel for his family, I really do.

But I'm an old fashioned guy with old fashioned values. I believe in good over bad.

Yassar Yaqub's life was only ever going to end one way.

Was he asked that? Probably but it's cops word and no other side of the story because they were not wearing cameras. How it's not law for them to have to do so especially in these situations is crazy. He's escaped punishment, his family have to pick up the pieces of losing a reletive and there are likely to be some sort of retaliation because sadly the flames have been stoked now.

Sorry but in the real world where a split second decision is needed there is no time to think about how the family of the one being killed will feel about things. Had the police heistataed then the outcome may have been very different. As it is the streets have one less violent gangster walking them.

I've already explained why they weren't wearing body cameras. It's simply a matter of timing and not conspiracy.

His mum and dad were the sole directors of his car business where he allegedly laundered his drug money.

But surely in a situation where people will debate what actually happened any camera is better than no camera for piece of mind and to have more concrete proof that what's being said is the way it happened. A group of trained cops between them decided the only way to control one guy was to kill him. I sincerely hope it doesn't rise tension but because of the kind of guy he was he probably knows folk that will want revenge, although not to Mark Duggan levels.

Do you understand how people high up in criminal organisations got where they?

Its not through the ability to knock up some power point slides

How would YOU control a man with a gun when you are on one side of a glass screen and they are on the other?

We now have an Imam at the funeral of Yassar Yaqub stirring up racial tension by accused police of killing him in a 'vigilante' attack.

    well

my opinion for what its worth, can't understand why the police stopped them where they did but presumably they were acting on information received and as they were after guns thought it was better than a built up area but still not convinced that was a great spot.
As for the rest his family say he was a nice guy but I think most suspect or know he definitely wasn't, for a start whether the silenced semi auto was in his possession or not how many decent folk do you know would even ride in a car with somebody with one never mind own one.
There's a a lot being made about the gun in the footwell, are we sure it was there the whole time or ended up there after the police opened fire? not sure about that bit.
I don't advocate police just shooting anybody out of hand but I do know if there's a car with armed people in it surrounded by armed officers and there's any doubt at all that the ones outside are in danger far better the suspects cop it ( no pun intended), basically because anybody going out armed like that is definitely up to no good and presumably would have no scruples about using it on others

Whilst I agree it would be useful from an evidence point of view , it's not quite as simple as it may seem though , firearms officers are there to do one job only and that is to open fire , if necessary , to protect lives . They are already encumbered with body armour and of course the firearm itself , that a normal officer would not be issued with . The current generation of Police bodycams are not that small , having a camera tagged on to the extra kit could interfere with the primary purpose which is the aiming and discharging of the weapon .

What we should do is wait until the full report of the incident is released before making judgements on what happened and why. Bearing in mind that West Yorkshire Police were fired upon from a car in Bradford only a few days earlier, and the shooting of that female officer a few years back in Bradford during an armed robbery on a travel agents, its worth remembering that there are people out there ready to use guns against the police.

Also lets not forget that the Police are not averse to shooting people who don't even have a firearm:-

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shooting_of_Stephen_Waldorf

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Harry_Stanley

So if you do actually have a gun on you, its pretty much game over if the police are running an operation on you. At the risk of speculating, this will go down a well worn path, Police thought he was reaching for a gun after challenging him, so they shot him. Whether he was reaching for a gun or not, if they can prove that the officer had reasonable cause to believe that was what was happening there will be no case to answer.
At least in this instance a drug dealing scum bag is dead rather than just some poor innocent person going about their daily business. Anyone saying its because he was Asian, or a Muslim is just trying to stir up trouble, but the kind of people who were protesting in Bradford (he wasn;t even from Bradford) are the type who will straight face tell you Mosad were behind 9/11 and that ISIS are a cell of the CIA designed to discredit Islam.

i'm surprised at the amount of support/sympathy this guy is getting, tbh. a renowned drug dealer. not just weed or phet either. crack and brown. the killers. gun, ammo and a silencer found in the car, associates arrested on firearms offences.

i do have a general concern about police marksmen taking people out. especially when there was no fire upon them. that's treading into scary territory.

however, i won't lose a second sleep over the bloke that's been shot. he was in the game. occupational hazard. some of the scenes i've seen have been crackers. vigils, mass gatherings, community leaders and family/friends coming out in his defence.

To be fair to UK Police , although there are examples like those highlighted by wakeyred , actual use of firearms is the lowest in the world , at least when taking population in to consideration . Our own
SYP Firearms unit has an exemplary record , formed around 1972 , it has never shot anyone .

I don't know i'm not a policeman in that situation who's trained to think on the spot. I'd have wanted the bad man brought to justice though.

I personally wouldn't care if he was brought to justice, given a medal of honour or been dressed up as a bumble bee and paraded through the town centre. My first priority would be making sure he didn't shoot me.

Probably spread his money about to keep local people on side, much like the Mafia have always done.
