I can remember watching the clock. After we scored. Time has never gone so slowly. Lol

Local leeds fans hated us back then. We really had the Indian sign over them. It was brilliant going out on a Saturday night after the match when we'd beat them.

Their reply was always about crowds and hooligans etc. I loved it

Remember quite a lot of Reds fans wearing a support bandage on their arm singing Ooh Gerry Gerry. Got absolutely pelted with coins in that pen.

Certainly was. Emotional day for a few of us as it had been a mates funeral after he was tragically killed in a road crash. The unlikely 2 1 win was a fitting tribute to our fellow Red.
Most hostile atmosphere I've ever experienced, both up to then and since. Taggart's victory dance in at the end in front of our jubilant fans was unforgettable. We were held back inside for an age while the Leeds nutjobs were cleared from the streets. All kinds of missiles we're coming over the wall at us.
Unforgettable win and still one of my all time favourite away wins.
    RIP Stevie old mate.....

Yeah I was only 15 at the time, still ranks as one of my best away days to this day, that wait in that corner area the police kept us pinned in for what sempt an eternity while a multitude of missiles rained down on us was a scary but yet auxiliarating experience

Was 17 at the time, best memory was taggart at full time coming to us thumping his chest and just about everything else, leeds fans absolutely seething, not sure if they wanted to kill us or taggart more. If am honest i was absolutely bricking it wondering what might happen. Turns out the biggest danger i had was trying to pick up as many coins as i could amongst the many reds fans heading for the exit. Came home with mi pockets full of change though. Good times :D

    erm...see the name
I was there with a group of lads organised by big Gary Seften (RIP). Fantastic atmosphere. After the game we had to walk through some very angry Neanderthals. Didn't care as we sang our way back to the bus. Expected a smack any second but it never came.
A week or so later we were travelling down to Pompey when we came across a car load of their lot on the way to wreck Bournemouth. Travelling down the motorway with two sets of fans screaming at each other through the sunroof and the windows is quite an unusual sight!

For the avoidance of doubt...I don't like them!

    No worries pal. ☺

Yeah I was thinking back to nights out in Hemsworth back in the 80s. From that first time we beat them at oakwell, we had a great record. Lots of my mates were leeds fans, and must have dreaded playing us.

Only a few years before when we were coming up through 3rd and 4th divisions they used to bang on about how they would never play us, yet there we were all together in the old second division and they were getting much smaller crowds than they care to admit.

I can remember once beating them at oakwell and they were a shambles. They still had Harvey in goal and Peter Lorimer was about 40 with a beer belly. Rest were kids like Tommy wright, tho he was a decent prospect.

Yes, great game! Dodging the bottles and bricks coming over the away end gates after the match took a little bit of the lustre off of it mind

Good God, what a night, we were getting battered, would have been happy to come away with a 1-0 to them, thought they would end up getting double figures. Then the substitutions. Won 2-1 Neanderthals wanting to kill us. Players waiting while they'd gone, then ooh Gerry Gerry coming over bringing the rest in tow. Running the gauntlet back to the car. Incredible night. Good owd days. Remember calling Strachan a dirty cheating ginger haired Scottish b'stard. Copper grabbed me by the collar. Said " he might be a cheat, ginger and Scottish but he's not one of them. Any more n thar art". Me " Sorry officer"

Seem to recall that teh old South Riding fanzine gave quite a humorous write up on teh game. Referred to Mervyn Day as Tooting & Mitchams future goalie IIRC( think he ballsed up badly on the 1st goal and wasn't great on teh 2nd)
