If there ever was a reason for disbanding this House, this was it. The inaccuracies etc. Would give the impression that the noble Lords are asleep to what's is going on in the world, or have their heads filled with inaccuracies by their serfs.
There have been many many reasons over decades upon decades as to why the House of Lords should be abolished this is no worse or different to any other time.
Some of them are actually asleep. But OP is correct the H of L is hopelessly outdated and should go along with the Royal Family, the TV licence fee and the NHS (in it's current form). Let's move into the 21st century.
Half the nation was asleep. Why should some old duffers with a title, not be allowed a kip? That'd be classist and ageist....
We will never move into the 21st century whist ever we have a political party/ whose ideology of the running of the country is a matter to only those with financial clout and priveliges. This only change this govt wants to the NHS is to its actually existence.
The NHS is probably the only thing they haven't already sold off, and are probably still annoyed that the population actually like it. Healthcare (along with education and money) is for the rich and the rest can suffer in silence.
It only ever hits the headlines when Tories are not in control of the lords though. It's been wanting reforming for year maybe even disbanding if another favourable option can be found . But when Thatcher was in control the lords were never allowed the scrutiny they are getting now and it was even more unsavoury then with the hereditary peers allowed full vote.
Probably same inaccuracies the op's favoured side of the referendum were spouting ,but it was alright then.
Quite right. What we need are men of integrity to lead the country forward and out of Europe. Men of substance. Guardians of the truth. Farage. Johnson. Gove. Nuttall. etc.
The biggest inaccuracy is that leaving the EU is the will of the people. 16,000,000 of us voted to remain. At best it's the will of a small majority of the people.
Do you seriously want a system where there are no checks and balances on the power of government? Seriously? https://www.ucl.ac.uk/constitution-unit/research/parliament/house-of-lords/lords-defeats Also, as the Tories have only 204 of the 689 peers eligible to vote (29.6%) who are the people with the serfs that you refer to?
