I don't think it was an extra four days off per year. Just 4 extra bank holidays. In other words, you lose them out of your holiday allowance....

********. Most small businesses rely on people's leasure. Catering, retail, etc & my business DJing.
And if you can't give your staff decent holidays you should be ashamed.

Im in the building trade for my boss it's another 4 days holiday he has to pay 10 book lads at around 100 a day. You do the maths? Then who do we all blame who when no companys will employ on the books and only take subcontractors on.

Is that not the Government telling us when we should take our holidays?

Plus why should these holidays be at random when 4 even more random people have lived or died?

Plus if the UK breaks up, why do we have a holiday to celebrate someone in e.g. Scotland?

Plus there are previous posts which make a thing about how Bank Holidays are good for the leisure industry - which is wonderful as long as you aren't one of those working when everyone else is tossing it off.

I give my staff the whole time off between Dec 23 and Jan 2. That's a proper holiday!

Good on you. I'm sure the rest that they get repays you in increased productivity throughout the year & staff retention.
The fact is we have the fewest public holidays in Europe pretty much & an actual public holiday creates lots of opportunities for business.
Just think of sporting events / music festivals, etc
