Not a dig but I bet it's the absolutely bare minimum. I bet it won't even be visible.

It's a shame you can't look at safety certificates online, like you can do with planning permissions. I'm convinced the real reason half the West Stand is out of use is policing + stewarding costs.

It needs work doing from an aesthetic point of view - to my mind. Walking to the ground it looks like a tired, ramshackle **** hole. Bit embarrassing really.

I agree about the safety certs though.

I said the other day i was going to have a break from the site, and wasnt going to post for a while....but after repying to another thread i saw this thread.....so my question is

At what age does a building get classed as a listed building or doesnt that apply to football stands .....if it does...and the west stand falls in to that bracket....where does that leave the club and what implications does it create re future developments....

Thats my thoughts as well though unless we are selling out, which we aren't its a none issue.
Cant say I want it fixed so we can allow even more Fowls or Leeds scum supporters in

There were a couple of occasions this season when it would have been nice to spill over into it, instead of making the facilities cramped in the other stands.

We lost £1m last year - we need every penny we can get.

we did open B upper for one game didnt we - cant remember which one but once we virtually sold out all the other blocks we were magically able to start using it.
I still think the issue is stewarding costs rather than safety. Either the stand is safe in which case we can use it, or it isnt in which case closing 40% of it doesnt really add up

Generally a building has to be more than 30 years old and be of national significance. With the redevelopment of so many grounds the West Stand may not be that far from qualifying. Another benchmark is whether it has been knocked about a lot from its original form. It was built in 1903. I thought it was an Archibald Leitch stand but can't find anything to confirm that. Personally after the demo of the Brewery Stand I've always gone in the West - I love it. A bit of TLC is needed, but it gives Oakwell character and should be cherished. Much better than the flat-pack stands elsewhere.

The club's "accounts" stated a loss of almost £1m. Or did they not?

Dont be silly - we have 15000 home seats ( would be 17000 if the West stand fully in use). In fact its less as for big games we cant use the East Lower block closest to the Away fans.
On several occasions last season we sold over 13000 of them (and for most of those the away end was sold out and for sure Leeds Newcastle and Wednesday could have sold many more )

I dont think we need to be adding capacity but we certainly the ground isnt too big - a fully functional west Stand and being allowed to sell the whole East Stand lower is all we need - unless we get Man Utd in the FA cup
