Bouanga who plays for L'Orient is valued at £1.75 million and talk is that we've had two
offers rejected by Forest Green for Pinnock. Can't see us paying £1.5 million though.

Would a player costing that amount put bums on seats anyway.?
Looks as though Johnny Howson could be leaving Norwich and re-joining Leeds for
a reported £5 million and I wouldn't even class him as box office.!

About right that Donny Red, £1 million/£1.5 million isn't much these days at this level. I dont know why most folk on here were on about Huddersfield spending £10 million on a player, it's 6% of their pot of gold for winning promotion.

Trouble for Huddersfield will be if they spend half of the £90m they got on transfers & their wage budget goes up to £20m a year, they'll have spunked the lot in a couple of years and then be relying on parachute payments to cover the inflated wages if they go down. And then go the same way as Bolton & Wigan etc.

Think they'll be sensible mind. Trouble is that the loan system in premierleague is restricted to 2. If they want to stay up they'll have to splash out, or if they want to play it safe they'll accept nailed on relegation, and build a team that will yo-yo up and down for a few years. Like Hull. Mooy for £10m and £40k a week? Not sure that's enough, and definitely isn't worth that.

How many teams are really reliant on going up soon or bust? Be good to see a table for the new championships profit/loss. My guess is Villa will be a busted flush in a few years if they don't go up. Chinese companies like the good docs are under incredible scrutiny for the way they've just bought up businesses - could be like a pack of cards. Once the parachute payments stop not sure he'll enjoy losing £30m a year for long.....

Thought the club slid nicely out of these major signings each season, so bringing them back seems crazy cos if they do it once it will be expected every season.

Exactly! Can't see it myself. Been loving the last few years and thought we'd heard the last of "box office" or "bums on seats" signing after the Frimpong/Mido/Jennings/Hume type disaster.

Give my a Jimmy Plymouth or a Gary Wycombe who I've never heard of and I'll be delighted.

Edit: of those Hume was mentioned purely because i think he was our last £1m player. He was a decent trier and very unlucky with injuries.

Ha! We've been linked with them all over the years haven't we?

I don't know if they were down to lazy journalists and slow news days, but these names just kept coming up time and again.

We could also sign a player at the end of their career back then, and still get a bit of effort from them. Compare that with talk of John Terry dropping down a division for 100 grand a week!

Very different times and values eh mate?

It would take an Allan Clark type signing for me to even considering it a signing that will, "put bums on seats."

I agree OCC. The first time I saw Hume I thought to myself " how is he worth a million"? Sadly during his time with
us whilst he was always an honest toiler he really didn't do anything to change that opinion.

When you think about it very few of the players we've paid a sizeable amount for ( by our standards re-£ 1 million plus) have lived up to the fee we paid.

The exception might be Ashley Ward. ? Like it's been said by others the secret of our future survival and success is to continue bringing in hungry young lads from the lower leagues improve them hopefully over a couple of seasons and then like we do now sell them on for a sizeable profit.

Our other aim is to continue to bringing as many through our Academy as we can Bree, Holgate and Stones being classic examples. I remain confident from what we've seen these last few seasons that we won't be spending money we haven't got
which unlike some who are or have been irresponsible hopefully means we will still have a Club to support.

Alan Clarke came as player / manager, so would that leave Hecky?

The Bradley Potts rumour seems to be gathering strength. Carlisle have a sell on clause
so they seem to be getting a bit animated at the prospects.

My relative in Poole ( the Southampton fan) has been in touch this morning.
He's not heard anything about Isgrove being linked with us.
That's not to say something can't happen but he says it's quiet down there at
    the moment.
