Could you provide evidence of a court judgement which stated that pens were not introduced throughout football in response to hooligan behaviour? You won't find one because they were.

Did you engage in hooligan behaviour?

And were irresponsible and we're not the responsibility of the fans who you have just said should take responsibility.

I think you are missing Supertykes point. His point is that Fencing was erected in response to hooligan behaviour
It was never introduced at Cricket matches for example where holigan behaviour didnt exist

Had football fans all behaved in a civilized manor there would never have been fences and the deaths at Hillsborough ( and other places) wouldnt have happened.

Whether penning in fans was the right response to control hooligan behavior is a different topic and not many people today would agree it was

There who goes where? What are you taking about?

Ps the judge never ruled into the reasons for the introduction of pens long before Hillsboro

Yes he is making the point that fences were erected because of hooligan behaviour ,but goes on to say that they (fans) should have responsibility for the decision.
The decision was made by out of touch or lazy authorities.
The fact is on general terms as st sees it is that yes the victim was murdered but some of her supporters (for want of a better word ) made me carry the knife because it was easier for me to control them,

The bit where he says pens were an irresponsible measure says that., Whether it's before or not.

Aye enjoy your afternoon. Interesting you weren't keen on revealing whether you have a hooligan past

The system definitely let good fans down, but something had to be done. The wrong option was implemented but at the time nobody foresaw the tragic outcome at Hillsborough. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, sadly it wasn't something available to the authorities. To blame the authorities while exonerating the hooligans is completely wrong IMO.

And I guarantee that had they done what you suggest and suspended or cancelled sporting events then the decent fans would have been up in arms demanding another way of dealing with the animals.

I could see straight away the problems with the fences tbh.
I don't think the authorities were oblivious to them either tbh.
I can remember journalists on television on quite a few near misses before Hillsborough questioning the Authorities both government and football about possible outcomes.

Like I said nobody thinks or thought it was a perfect solution but the fences were put up to deal with a problem that all decent fans wanted completely eradicating.

One question. Would you agree that the fences, rightly or wrongly, were put up by the authorities to deal with the hooligan problem that was out of control in the game?

That would have been a good thing then surely.
Maybe then they would have taken real measures on the hooligan element as they did after Hillsborough with meaningful fines and or sentences and banning orders etc ,

That's just the argument I had with supertyke .
Yes obviously the authorities made them put the fences up as a cheap and Ill thought measure .
Not denying that , but after Bradford ,surely they should have been banned long ago.
You keep insisting it was the only way ,but they found a way after Hillsborough and most of these ideas had been put to them long before that .

I haven't insisted that it was the only way in any of my posts; I've said the authorities reacted to a problem and perimeter fences were considered to be a way of controlling those intent on disorder inside the ground.

My assertion is that the authorities wouldn't have been forced to react had hooliganism not been the problem that it was back in the 70s and 80s. If blame is to be apportioned then the hooligans of the time take the lions share. I'm not sure what is controversial about this view.

History shows the decision was wrong but no solution should have been needed in the first place. If people can't go to a game of football without wanting to fight and kick the **** out of opposing supporters then there is something badly wrong.
