I sit bang opposite it. I wonder why they didn't build a TV platform into the East Stand. If the West Stand ever gets developed I wonder where the cameras would go in the meantime.

"Because of this, the usual ISDN points that all commentators would use are not going to be available. "

Not right up on why our press box still uses a telephony tech as old as ISDN. Why cant they use modern fibre connections? Surely they could fire up a laptop anywhere in the ground on the wifi or a network socket and stream their commentary?

I seem to remember us having to upgrade all our facilities for reports when we went up to the prem. Maybe we should get these brought up to modern era at the same time as the stand.

I might be wrong, but I think I can remember a post on the website that all Championship clubs had a state of the art, mega high speed fibre connection put in at the start of last season. But again, I might have seen something and misunderstood...

It's not like we're desperate for a tv gantry, is it.

ISDN lines are outside broadcast industry standard for radio and audio streaming. It is archaic, admittedly but most media outlets in the country still use the service although they did begin phasing them out around 2 years ago - I think it will still take 4 or 5 years before a switch to fibre optic is complete.
In the meantime we're stuck with the 2 empty Coral bean tins and piece of string on iFollow.

I actually thought ISDN was just an industry term that stuck even if it wasn't being used, didn't realise it was actually still in use, amazes me how the sound quality is there when isn't it something like 64kbps?

Not sure how reliable that is, anything over about 12mbps is gonna be fibre and you're always gonna get an upload of at least 10.

Barnsley FC are under no obligation to provide commentary for non-competitive games, so any friendlies we cover are a bonus. It's a nice gesture to offer them free to all - you never know it might encourage a few more folk to subscribe which would benefit the club.

not necessarily - depends how far you are from the cabinet with FTTC. Fibre is worse than adsl over longer distances because of the drop off. Im on fibre and struggle to get 1Mbps up because im about 1.7miles worth of cable to the cabinet. Drops off quickly after 1.6 i think - from what i can remember when i had BT looking into why it was so ****. O only get about 16 down as well on a good day.

It really is a great thing to be covering friendlies when you don't have to and some clubs don't but I do see his point that the gesture seems a bit strange when you think about it.

'because those who pay won't get the service we will give something free to other people instead'.

I'm not complaining because I think giving friendlies free is a good way to essentially offer a trial to everyone without the faff of having to sign up to a trial but I do understand his point that as n apology to those who pay its a bit of a weird one. Still not complaining like but I found it quite funny

No idea where my cabinet is but I get 80/20 even though the advertised speed is 76/19 so I'm guessing it could be a lot faster if they really wanted to. Read the article again and think I misunderstood it - it's an average of speeds within 500 metres of the ground so suppose that's why there's a big difference in upload/download.
