Matty Pearson - Accrington Stanley & Yiadom

Barnsley. Trying for Pearson at Accrington. Cost about 500. Can play cb and rb. With Yiadom going that would help.

Watched him play many times when I worked at Accrington last season and I think he would be a great signing for us. He is a solid, very athletic defender who can play anywhere across the back four and he is also a big threat from set pieces. Scored quite a few for Accrington last season. Still young as well, only turns 24 tomorrow.

Obviously he'll have big shoes to fill with Yiadom departing but he would be a very decent replacement.

 

Was also named in last season's EFL Cup best 11.

Yeah looks like he has goals in him. 98 appearances, 11 goals.

 

Do you enjoy going there mate? We went last season for the new ground, and it was a great experience. Locals were very welcoming. They play morecambe away on a day when we don't play so we're thinking of popping over, again for the new ground.

 

Just looked at pics of him and I can remember him from the game we saw last season.

I think he played centre half. Very physical and likes a challenge. Won a lot of headers that day. Tony Adams type of defender.

 

500 sounds a bargain.

 

Seems an obvious replacement to Yiadom. Full back who can play on either side and on the wing too. Similar age, similar experience. Can't argue with the replacement if true.

I'm still not convinced that Yids is leaving.

 

Sounds a good player, Cant say I know much of him to be honest but can play lots of positions so thats always a good thing.

Ideally we get this lad and Yids stays as even with Yids we are a full back short IMO. If Yiadom does go and this guy comes in then I think we would need another full back aswell.

Just get the impression that for the fee being rumored, it would have been done weeks ago when said fee was meant to be on the table.

I feel we won't get offered more than £2 million based on the fact that Yids has just 12 months left on his contract, it's whether the club feels that's enough.

 

Agree. Apparently they offered £1 million then £1.5. Now upped to £2 million

 

2 million buys us so little though, and it just adds to the problems for this season

Seriously though, as someone else posted, full backs are much easier to replace. Yiadom and George Williams both came from lower levels and did a great job for us.

If Pearson signs and possibly another we've got plenty of cover at the back.

 

Absolutely it was a fantastic experience, it's a nice little ground and the fans like you say are very friendly. I had the job there as the PA announcer, best game I did was the 1-0 EFL Cup win over Burnley where Pearson got the winner in extra time. The atmosphere that night was incredible.

Got to see a few ex Barnsley players too in John O'Sullivan and Jordan Clark which was good. Although I don't work there anymore I'll definitely go to see them this season. Hopefully they can get promoted to L1, they have been close to promotion for a few seasons now.

 

I can't agree, purely because Pearson appears to be an exact replacement for Yiadom, and will probably come at a fraction of the cost that we'd get for Yids.

Its just the frustration of the amount of player turnover.

 

Now theres a player who didn't live up to his 'potential'... Why did John O'Sullivan not go onto better things which we thought he was capable of doing.

 

It buys us a £500k player and covers his wages for 3 seasons.

 

it doesn't as transfer income is not used to pay wages.

 

Doesn't not paying Andy Yiadom's wages pay his wages?
