We have too many in my opinion, none of whom seem overly suited to playing in a midfield two which is a concern, especially as none appear overly suited to playing out wide neither. I love having options, but they all seem to be similar players trying to do similar things. If we line up 4-5-1 then most should see a lot of game time. But that formaton just doesn't seem to work for us. I don't envy Hecky having to work out the best formula.

It seems weird that he's not even getting on the bench when Bird is.

I wouldn't be entirely surprised if he went out on a loan until January even though we literally just signed him.

You could be right. I have a completely unfounded suspicion that he was not Hecky's choice and it would not surprise me to see him being loaned out 31 Aug.
He is a decent enough player but he just doesn't look Hecky's type to me.

Give over the manager always has the final say on players that's been said time and time again. I feel sorry for him that he has had his best players sold from.under him but these are his players.

Sounds from Hecky suggest that he doesn't have the final say though. But without being involved in the whole process, we'll never know.

Owner: who do you fancy then manager?
Manager: any chance we can have player X please?
Owner: I'll see what I can do

Owner: I've found you a player do you want him?
    Manager: I'd prefer a striker
Owner: I haven't found a striker. Do you want this guy or not?
Manager: I'll wait for a better one if that's ok
Owner: I didn't offer you anyone else. Take this guy or nobody at all
Manager: I'll have him then it's better than nothing

Two totally different scenarios but in both it is accurate to say the manager has the final say on a player

Two made up scenarios to fit your agenda. I was always under the impression the spreadsheet highlighted the players on statistics they are then brought to the managers attention. If he likes we go in for them and try sign them. I thinks that's how it's been done under Wilson Johnson and hecky.

As I understand it the manager has the final say and he may wish to conduct further analysis by physically scouting the player. It's why the manager should always receive credit/blame at the end of the day. I guess everyone loves a conspiracy theory.

Yes I feel sorry for hecky in the sense that his best players have been sold or chosen not to renew their contracts and leave. But these signings are his and he has to take responsibility same with any manager signing players some will be good some won't. Looking forward to Lindsay and mcgheen in the starting 11.

It was said at one point that all the cogs in the coaching wheel were easily replaceable and the most important aspect of the strategy was the spreadsheet. That doesn't suggest to me that the head coach has the final say.

His dad's tweeted that Stevie is flying in training, working hard with the coaches and Dad can't understand why he's not involved. Protected tweets.

Stephen Hawkin wouldnt even be able to understand why Brad Potts has become an automatic starter. Let's hope he's had his 3 game trial and Hecky looks at others while he gets up to speed with championship. Big jump from L2.

It isn't fitting any agenda because I have absolutely no idea how we sign players. I was simply pointing out two totally opposite scenarios which would both result in the manager having the final say. For the record though I suspect we operate somewhere in the middle. Spreadsheet, recruitment bods (including board, Patrick and james) look at spreadsheet and identify players, do a bit of research on them and calculate resale value then suggest name to hecky who either says yes please or no thankyou. In essence apart from a spreadsheet instead of a scout I don't see much different to how players have been signed previously except that resale value is prioritised over their benefit to Barnsley's squad.

Why is everybody blinded by this Patrick cryne is the saviour and he can do no wrong. It's all down to the spreadsheet from his son.

Do you really think heckingbottom would have signed mallan for 200k (not to be in the squad over an u23 player) and pinnock (rumoured potential upto 1 million pound fee ( to be left on the bench).

It's so blindingly obvious a goldfish could work that out.

Like when mourinho signed Mikyhtarian and left him out the squad for a month or so. And same with Lindelof. Do you think he has no say either? It's not obvious in the slightest, its complete guesswork. Maybe hecky wanted him, but has decided he's not quite ready? Similar to Moncur. Is that really out the realms of possibility to some?
