I've registered for the homeless sleep out at Oakwell on the night of 2nd November. I know there's a seemingly endless stream of charity fundraising pages being set up these days, so I'm not really asking for donations, but I wanted to post it on here in case anyone else wants to join in or share my page. https://sleepoutbarnsley.everydayhero.com/uk/ian Of course, if anyone does want to donate............
Night after on the 3 rd November , there is a charity five a side tournament through the night at oakwell too . Teams are required
This is not a criticism, I think you're doing a very good thing, but I can't help but think that instead of people with homes sleeping out on the street, everyone would be much happier, warmer and safer if people with homes invited someone who has to sleep out on the street into their home for the night. I can't talk, I'm doing **** all for anyone, it just seems more logical.
You make a very valid point, as usual. However, I think most people would feel a little apprehensive (rightly or wrongly) about inviting a complete stranger into their home even for one night. I know I would. The money raised does, indirectly, help to provide accommodation for homeless people through the Centrepoint organisation https://centrepoint.org.uk/about-us/ I'd never heard of them until yesterday so I can't vouch for them, but on the face of it they do seem to help with the problem.
Most of them who say them in tarn who say they are hungry and homeless are taking the pi55 i saw one outside sports direct the other day with a pair of new air max trainers and a burberry cap must pay good begging ont streets
No idea mate, I know of a couple of friends doing it but as yet I've not managed to find anything on the website with numbers.
I might be up for it myself pal also I might see if I can get some mates involved, is it anyone else of the bbs that’s doing it?
It's £20 to register, then you get asked to raise £200 but it's not compulsory. Would be a reyt laff if there were a group from here joining in. We could discuss Brexit, 442, Octopus and Corbyn/May all night.
Anyone else on here interested in this? And if anyone could spare a fiver or two.......... https://sleepoutbarnsley.everydayhero.com/uk/ian
Unfortunately for every homeless person that needs genuine assistance, there's two or three who are simply pretending to be homeless - it must be a decent earner. Absolutely no reason why anyone in this country should be sleeping on the street, not long term anyway, there's too much protection in place.
Depends on their circumstances, we had someone who kept staying in our shed whilst on holiday and landlord turned up one morning to check if house was fine she caught him, kicked him out and pad locked the shed door after texting us whilst we were in Salou. He's one of them who would rather go out boozing all day then sort out getting a home for himself.
