The worlds gone ******* mad. Daughter in performing arts today at high school. They had to pick a nursery rhyme to act out and make into some kind of news report. She got told off for suggesting baa baa black sheep. It’s racist and no longer allowed. It’s now baa baa rainbow sheep apparently. ffs. I walked the dog past some actual black sheep this afternoon, I defo didn’t see no rainbow coloured ones. Absolutely Barmy
Rainbow - as in gay? And it wouldn't surprise me that the women's English team manager got the sacked for saying something very similar. Wi foooked !!! That's until the backlash begins.
That's a new one to me. The one I heard was multi coloured sheep. Can't sing Three Blind Mice as it's violent. Can't sing Humpty Dumpty because sitting on a wall could be health and safety. Can't say blackboard either it's a writing board. Think some places have banned the word chalk because apparently it's too close to playing the race card. PC gone mad.
Perhaps if a wider knowledge of the stories behind the Rhymes could help? For example, Humpty being Royalist canon during the Civil War defending Colchester Barracks. I don’t know, it might help. Lot more things to angrier over imho.
So glad that I don’t work in that kind of environment any more. I remember a few years back when Birmingham City council banned “Christmas” on religious grounds. It was renamed WINTERVAL.
“Birmingham City Council banned Christmas.” You must be at least a little embarrassed at coming out with such guff. Surely?
Performing arts at high school you say. So what age is your daughter? and who told her off? I dont know whether this is serious or not as it sounds like the type of fake news you read on facebook like union flags being banned and Muslim shop workers refusing to serve members of the armed forces etc.
I also thought it was just one of those rumours that gets spread to wind people up without having any substance whatsoever......??? How can a black sheep be anything other than a black sheep?? Who could that possibly offend!
That's not true. The Daily Mail accused the council of it (before actually issuing a retraction), but the fact that it's absolute nonsense doesn't stop it being brought up every year, invariably by one of the 'PC's gone mad' idiot brigade.
No it’s true, also true that I walked the dog past black sheep today lol. As most days. She’s 13. She’s at high school. As in my original post they had to get into groups choose a nursery rhyme or kids story then act it out and put their own Twist on it with one of them reporting on it as a kind of news item. They do daft stuff in performing arts lol. My daughter suggested Baa Baa Black Sheep and the teacher snapped at her and said it was racist and can no longer be said, they have to say rainbow sheep.
I thinks it’s more todo with there are also white sheep. Why are we singing about just black sheep or summat. Mad
Would like to know how this is racist. The colour black is not racist. The nursery rhyme comes from many centuries ago and from memory is referencing taxing on wool and that it would be impossble back then to dye black wool which leads to the phrase black sheep of the family. Nothing to do with race. I think a lot of childrens nursery ryhmes have many dark undertones to them such as ring o'roses which is about the plague for example.
I don’t think anyone cares anymore where things originate or what they mean. It’s just the word black. I don’t know if this is widely used, may just be this teacher Be interested to know if @JamDrop came across this while teaching young children
Googling it, there a numerous reports of schools and nursery’s changing black to alsorts such as rainbow, white, little and others refusing to change anything. I suppose it depends where certain teachers have worked previously
You know that for certain do you? Well, I was living in Gloucester at the time so had the Midlands version of Look North and I remember them covering the story. Not a Daily Mail invention at all
