Millions of pounds from the Queen’s private estate has been invested in a Cayman Islands fund as part of an offshore portfolio that has never before been disclosed, according to documents revealed in an investigation into offshore tax havens.

Files from a substantial leak show for the first time how the Queen, through the Duchy of Lancaster, has held and still holds investments via funds that have put money into an array of businesses, including the off-licence chain Threshers, and the retailer BrightHouse, which has been criticised for exploiting thousands of poor families and vulnerable people.

The duchy admitted it had no idea about its 12-year investment in BrightHouse until approached by the Guardian and other partners in an international project called the Paradise Papers. .......

Absolutely sickening. The whole lot of them. We could fund the NHS for about a billion years if they didn’t stop stealing from us.

What puzzles me is that people just shrug this stuff off. It’s reprehensible evil even.

Add to that. Then produce/watch programmes like Benefit Street and put all the blame on the ‘lower classes’ for all that’s wrong in society.

Those benefit programmes are pure vicious hatred. They should be banned. The rich steal and lie and getaway with it shames us all that we accept this.

It as always happened and always will, were a capitalist country run by the upper crust.
The Royal Family along with the Railways, Electric, Gass and the Post Office want nationalising but these things will never happen, too many working-class torys.

Get Corbyn in, he'll sort it out! The money will be spread among the people, and the country will prosper!

Look how many more people visit Versailles than Buckingham Palace. Kick her out and put it to good use.

According to the Independent, Queenie also owns shares in BrightHouse and Threshers.

Normally, a bunch of immigrants that lived off the state would be the target for vitriol from the Daily Mail.

Read somewhere that there's about 40 trillion dollars in offshore accounts - could do some damage with that

The perfect victory of the right wing Murdoch press. The belief in cynicism. In that nothing can change. They perpetuate that myth because they like the status quo. Things can change. The hospitals we go to when we are sick and the schools we send our kids to they show what idealism can do. My Nan was a servant at 14 with half a day a week off so she could go to church. Unions changed that. Unity is powerful. The reason wages don’t increase now when they should is the obliteration of unions. Homelessness has increased by 54 percent in the last 7 years wages have collapsed. The countries. On its arse politicians have done that.

This is not capitalism though. It's the hoarding of old money for the sake of hoarding, at least as far as the Royal Family is concerned. Sickening greed, for the sake of sickening greed. I have very little problem with capitalism if it involves the investment of money to expand the economy and create jobs, which in turn redistribute wealth. The system may not be ideal, but it's a bloody sight better at providing a decent standard of living for most than any of the alternatives. Especially when combined with social-liberal government policies (see Finland and Scandinavian). What I have a problem with is the hoarding of unearned wealth, combined with the people who can most afford to pay tax not paying it. Wrong on so many levels.

We're forced to pay the Queen money via tax. She then takes that money and fraudulently re-invests it to make more money for herself, whilst paying no tax.

That's some corruption scheme right there.

People are so quick to criticise without knowing anything about offshore funds.

It’s true that in some cases people will go there for dodgy reasons such as tax avoidance, but the vast majority of the time (I’d wager 99%) are for perfectly legal reasons, and not to avoid tax.

These jurisdictions have low or nil tax rates, but that doesn’t mean “Queenie” or any other investors (including pension funds) don’t pay tax. Income arising offshore will be taxed on a remittance basis when it’s brought into the country, there’s just no withholding tax (so akin to paying through self assessment rather than PAYE).

The Monarchy doesn’t have to pay tax on any income her estate earns in any case, because she’s the Monarchy. She does however pay voluntary income tax on all her income. So why would her advisors set up offshore funds for the purposes of avoiding tax?
