During this period there were 4 social democratic governments. They spent the majority of this period in government. In fact sweden had social democrat prime ministers for around 90% of the 1935-75 period so i guess that means they were 90% responsible.
I'm pleased you two have forced me to revisit a topic that i first fleetingly came across whilst at college many moons ago. The wealth of primary and documentary evidence and governmental acknowledgement is staggering. Ah yes.... the swedish social democrats first put forth a bill proposing the sterilization of anyone suffering from 'deranged mentality' and it was finally passed and the 'Sterilization Act' came into being on January 1 1935.
what research is that - the research that shows that in the 1930's Sweden along with Norway Finland Denmark and Germany all hit on the brilliant idea that the tall blond and perfect specimens were to be encouraged and sterilise some of the mentally ill or otherwise disabled so that the race remained purer. A policy persued by both the Far right (Germany) and the socialists (sweden) quite what that now discredited policy has to do with todays government is beyond me Other countries practicing the idea of forcibly sterilising the mentally ill included Canada Austria Switzerland and the good old USA. In Sweden the law was changed in 1975 and the only anomaly left was that people choosing a sex change had to accept sterilisation as part of the deal. The Socialists (your bad guys) tried to get that law changed in 2011 but this was prevented by the Christian Democrat party (your good guys) Is that enough for you
Me too. Somewhat reluctantly given the Labour Party is still infected by centerist dads but it’s time for change.
I'm a long standing supporter of the labour party so i don't know where you're going with that one really. There have been a couple of leaders of the party that i did not want over that period too. I'm pretty sure there are many conservatives that don't want May as their PM either, but it doesn't stop them supporting the party. For me the labour party is about the whole, the movement, the union and the rest: one man is not an island. I've made no reference to the sterilization act nor swedish social democracy in relation to 'todays government' whatsoever so you've lost me there. I am also a committed atheist and the complete opposite to a christian democrat you would ever find. It is clear that you and a few others have not taken the time to look at many of my historical posts. There you will find a clear abhorrence of racism and discrimination and a strong desire to remain within the EU. But despite all of the above there is an uninformed perception that because i am not a fan of corbyn then that makes me a member of the waffen ss or something equally risible.
Eh? I said you were wrong because you said the social democrats started it in the 70s. Patently false, as you have now said - 1935 to 1975. I struggle to see where I said it never happened - even mentioning the sterilisation of people undergoing sex changes.
I agree i was wrong to state the late 70s. As i have acknowledged i fleetingly came across the subject a long time ago. I should have said the 1930s.
