It was only 2 weeks ago that Hecky was being praised for working his magic with another squad. Now the same squad is being completely written off by many. I think this four match losing run is more to do with Hecky's constant changes. He's still searching for his best XI, trying to keep the whole squad happy and rotating a bit because of this sport science *****.

We could have put whatever money we are wasting on Ugbo towards one :)

How anyone can think that The Plan is a long term, sustainable model is beyond me. When you repeatedly strip assets from an enterprise then eventually it will be left with no assets to strip.

    You've got this wrong.
Ok - we haven't got the quality of Hourihane - but in my view these players are potentially as good if not better than what we had.
However- they need time to come up to speed.

My concern is four fold - firstly, Patrick had a fire sale so nearly a brand new squad had to be built. This is a ridiculous situation for a Championship club.

Secondly, the new players were brought in late - so Hecky had a up hill struggle from the start of the season.

Thirdly, when a batch of players are brought in there is always a percentage that will struggle - such as Mallan and Mowatt - therefore there has to be more brought in than what is needed.
For example - if 4 players are needed it's best to bring in 5. Some positions have got adequate cover but others have not.

Forth - if not enough players are recruited for a particular position to give the manager options in that position - e.g. Strikers - then the team will struggle when other teams work out how they play.

I can't think of a single player recruited in the summe who is better than the one he replaced.

It’s an evolving process though, isn’t it? I suppose time will tell.

In fairness Lindsay seems pretty good.

    We can start with Barnes.
As I've said repeatedly - given time and a couple of more striker options then this is a better set of players than this time last season.

As I recall we offered Morsy a pay cut. Wigan offered him a pay rise. So considering what he is probably earning now we would have no chance.

Barnes is better than Kent for a start.

Agree, he's an upgrade on MacDonald. He was not the replacement for Roberts that some like to conveniently claim he was. Hecky was looking forward to playing right-footed Roberts alongside left-footed Lindsay.

I think that, with some modifications, it's the right way to go. Just seems like we've just gone a bit mentally fundamentalist with it.

My ideal version of The Plan last season would have involved accepting that Winnall, Bree, Hourihane and Mawson had to go, but also pushing the boat out to keep Watkins, Scowen and Roberts. There has to be a middle ground where we can sell or let go four or five players a season, but keep some sort of core around which we can slot new, young players. That's how I could see the club continuously improving.

Another season in the Championship. We should be able to increase the amount we can pay on wages.

Agree again and if not him, someone similar. I understand about the wages but I'm sure the combination of Gardner and Ugbo's costs would more than bankroll them! (I know it's about wage structures as a whole but we also know they were broken in order to bring the necessary quality of Hammill in, in L1).

I also thought we could have taken Charlie Wyke from Carlisle last January. Seemed both physically and record-wise the player most like Winnall. He had a £250k release fee and so wouldn't really have been a gamble, particularly given the fees paid for lesser players since. A year on and we still haven't replaced Sam.

Maybe he could transfuse some to Moncur until his knee's better :)

    Love Hecky. Bin the spreadsheet.
