I just posted that in another thread - its almost beyond belief

Unsurprisingly the EU have done them
    http://www.europarl.europa.eu/unitedkingdom/en/ukevents/brexit/brexitstudies.html

Not only that he has lied to parliament having previously stated that they were being kept hidden so they didnt give the EU valuable information on our negotiating position.

That's not really the point though is it? The entire scenario and a plan for leaving should have been produced before the actual vote. We would then have had a strict mandate to follow throughout the leaving process with a more in depth and accurate assessment of the pros and cons for leaving.
Unfortunately politicians are out of touch and arrogant whichever party they are in and a consequence to this is that they didn't approach the situation diligently enough.

I think you are being a bit unfair to lump all parties into this.
This lies squarely with the tories and "call me Dave", for calling a referendum on an issue without having a clue what the consequences of a Leave vote were. And then compounded it by declaring Brexit means (Hard) Brexit for policical reasons without even giving a thought to the conseqences for the country

I agree Impact assesments should have been done and published before the Referendum

As for Arrogance Mays deal to give up Northern Ireland at least as far as customs go defies belief. Did she really think the DUP would go for it, not to mention if I was Northern Irish I wouldnt be too impressed at a different deal to the rest of the UK.

Or it's all a con created by people who know exactly what they are doing, and taking advantage of gullible people who definitely don't know what they've let themselves (and the rest of us) in for...

I read the other day that 60% of the population of NI hold Irish passports (presumably a lot hold both Irish and UK passports - and more have applied due to the uncertainties over Brexit). In the last assembly election, the Republicans polled just under 40% of the vote and only the DUP of the Unionists were pro-Brexit (UUP are respecting the vote now). Blocking this deal - which would have given NI many benefits economically - could do for the DUP what the coalition did for the LibDems in 2015.

He went on Andrew Marr's show a while back and said the assessments had been done, describing them as "excruciatingly detailed". Now they don't exist and he's "not a fan of them" (his words). At the very least, this is open lying and utter incompetence by a cabinet minister.

This whole ridiculous process has got to be stopped now.

Is Davis for real when in parliament, he's asked a question he turns his back on the questioner ,while answering and in this Brexit select committee meeting he's there chewing, chewing gum and looks as though he doesn't give a ****. just imagine if it was Jeremy Corbin chewing, gum while answering questions, they would have him hung drawn and quartered.

Unsurprising that no assessments have been carried out. Unsurprising that Davis blustered his way through in old fashioned unaccountable tory style.

The point of the tories is to be in power. I've never met a tory who doesn't think they have a god given right to be continually running the country as they have that inherent right. To actually do rigorous work, to actually do whats best for the country, to actually protect and help people do better, that's all smoke and mirrors and is counterproductive to their want of retaining old money, protecting privilege and actually having a sizeable underclass to exploit for personal gain.

Despite all this, its deeply worrying that there isn't an economically competent minister, or party in politics, at this time that can throw light onto this absolute debacle.

The vote was a mess, the understanding of the vote result was a mess, the actions post vote were a mess, the snap election was a mess and the "negotiations" are beyond a mess.

I understand the lead lawyer for the negotiations still isn't in place (5 months after trying to recruit), though an appointment is pending (haggling over salary) and 3 people have turned the post down so far.

There isn't a collective agreement on what should happen within the tory party, let alone crossbench, and I truly fear what will follow.

In contrast the EU is organised, transparent and swift in its movements. Ironic how we'll be leaving it (I still hope sanity prevails, if we can't sort out a border issue, how much chance have we to arrange regulatory structures, hand overs and trading agreements?) and we'll have much less transparent, less debated and less rigorous systems and structures in place once we leave.

But hey, at least it will be our shambles, eh?

I've posted about this before, and I know this will make any difference, but there are major regulatory problems that are presented without an agreement during the negotiations. GDPR will cause all kinds of problems - in a "No Deal" scenario, it will be a breach for companies based in the EU to process PII for EU citizens in the UK - imagine the large hotel chains (for example) unable to store or process EU citizen data within the UK, and *vice versa*. In fact, I am not aware that we have any kind of method to approve data adequacy for third countries (all ~200 of them) and so in the event of "No Deal", it is entirely likely that hundreds of outsourcing contracts to store or process UK citizen data outside the UK will be made illegal. This might not be a bad thing for various UK industries to bring jobs back in the UK - but the companies will still have to pay out for the remainder of the contracts which could have a devastating effect on their profitability.

That is just one little area, and there are hundreds.

For the most capable program managers, Brexit would be fiendishly complex within the time scales. So complex that they would immediately be negotiating at least a 5 year transition period and making plans to bring back aspects of governance in a structured manner, not having to set up a new government agency (or expand an existing one) roughly every 3-4 weeks like they want to.

Oh the irony. All those clamouring for brexit saying they want to take back control.
So you want to grab back control from the people who are organised, have done their homework, are transparent and seem to have the best interests of their citizens in mind and give it to this shower who are just making it up as they go along, are prepared to lie outright and seem to have the same grasp of reality as Donald Trump. Yes we can vote them out after 5 years but the damage will already have been done by then and opposition don't seem to be much better if truth be told.
There seems to be an unchallenged view that our politicians know best. What that is based on other than 'we're British so must be better than Johnny Foreigner' I've no idea. When I look at the calibre of politician in these negotiations it looks like Real Madrid vs Sutton FC. The EU is far from perfect and needs reform, but it is light years ahead of our parliamentary system based on privilege & patronage.

It's madness. We are taking a punt on all our futures based on nothing more than some ethereal notion that 'we will be in control'.

Apart from those reviews didn't consider the impact of Leaving the EU and customs union so they arent actually that helpful. That and the fact he wasnt clever enough to think of it of course as it was clearly the sensible get out of jail card :)

I didn't say they did. They analyse the effect of EU law on policy in the UK. And thus give a good starting point to any study of the effect of leaving the EU.

The Majority for leaving was only achieved by lieng that the country's woes were solely down to people pinching our jobs and undercutting wages ,
Without this monstrous lie and Cameron's Calamity we wouldn't be in this mess.
The people that wove these lies are now peddling that a no deal and leave is the only option.
God knows what they'll come out with when we're up sh it creek if we do , go back to blaming immigration no doubt.
It's like a General leading his men from one disaters to another hoping something will go right sometime

Its all part of the plan. What we've seen over last 18 months has been a coup by the extreme right wing of the conservative party. When they get there feet under the table we can get ready. They will make Maggie look like mother Teresa
