I was very indifferent when Lee left. Credit to the club for sticking by him when we were bottom of league 1; we showed an incredible amount of patience particularly after the debacle at Altrincham in the cup.

We were coming around again when he left, but to be honest, we had a ready made replacement waiting in the wings, and I feel part of our success that season was down to the continuity at the club; not changing tact when Lee left, and sticking with the formula which was just becoming fruitful and installing Hecky.

I feel Hecky is a better coach. He's more straight talking and doesn't talk in clichés and buzzwords which sits well with our similar minded fans.

I'm not going to slag Lee off, he was a better manager than Danny Wilson MK2, we played marginally better football than we did under Mark Robins, and he wasn't quite on the same level of buzzword ******** as Hillflicker, who were the 4 managers who preceded him. The difficulties we were having at the club at the time in my opinion stemmed from re-employing DW purely for sentiment reasons when I feel Micky Mellon would have been a better option, so Lee for me was a step in the right direction, and Hecky was an upgrade.

Keep an eye on us next season; I'm much more patient than most, and I feel that by this time next year, the core of our team will have been together for the best part of a year, and permitting we've still got Hecky in charge, we could surprise a few.

    Good luck for the season.

Led us to our longest ever losing stream losing 8 consecutive league games. He played 4-5-1 and wouldn't drop hourihane, Pearson or scowen in the middle with winnall leading the line by himself. Scowen got 5 yellows so he had to put 2 up front and low and behold we won our next game and never looked back. Totally inept a manager can allow this to happen without even changing formation or personnel but to pick the same team in the same system without change when losing week after week is madness especially as people could see winnall would thrive with a partner. Would of been intrigued if scowen hadn't picked that yellow for a few more game to see if he'd of carried on. Bristol city are polar opposites to us in the league, large crowd + financial backing so it's hard to judge his performance down
there but I will always remember him as that bloke that led us to our worst memories in most recent times (1 position above league 2).

Those players were playing absolutely rubbish football under the dwarf, until Paul heckingbottom was promoted to be the 1st team coach !! then we started to get better, oh and we also brought Hammill in and went 4-4-2

We brought hammill in and went 4-4-2 is the main reason we went up that year, not because of hammill but because LJ no longer had an excuse to play Winnall either out wide or up top on his own. Also brought the best out of Hourihane who LJ had worked with to be able to play in a midfield 2. PH merely inherited a very good team who'd found a winning formula by default and didn't change much, it'd have talk an idiot to stop us getting promoted that year. Johnson would have stopped us mind.

I would disagree slightly with the not changing much.

The big thing about Johnson’s winning run before he left was that he was able to keep the same team every game but Hecky had a lot of adversity to deal with.

Watkins ended up crocked for months, Kevin Long who’d been a rock went back to Burnley, all our full backs got injured meaning he had to play Scowen at right back & he dragged George Williams out of the U23’s who Johnson had deemed surplus to requirements to play left back. Hammill who me & many others had credited for our resurgence got banned for 3 games & we managed to win them all.

I thought we were done when we drew 0-0 at Sheff Utd in April, players looked out on their feet, incredible how he got them going again to batter Wigan, Walsall & Millwall

Someone leaves a club in 13th place with about 13 games left and some folk think he deserves credit for us getting promoted.

I hope Palace fans remember to give De Boer credit if Hodgson keeps them up.

I could've sworn Scowen was injured for a few months, meaning Johnson went with Hourihane & Pearson as a two, not suspension as that would've meant Josh missing just one game.

That's the trouble with your "no chance" of promotion and your "about 13 games left" statements.

It's not just that they are wrong. They are hopelessly wrong. Which is why they are not either turns of phrase or indeed anything else beyond inaccurate. Which is why I have a "sociopathic" urge (I must admit I only thought it was my need to address simple inaccuracies, but there we go) to correct you.

With 13 games to go we were actually 3 points off the team in 6th place. 3 whole points. So no chance of promotion at that point then.

When LJ left we were 8 points off the playoffs with a game in hand. With 18 matches still to play. Do you have a turn of phrase for less than no chance?
Perhaps at that point we should have appointed the Reverend Jim Jones (instead of Hecky) to encourage us all towards mass suicide because things were so hopeless.

By the way Scunthorpe - the team we ended up scrapping with for the final place at the end were below us with 18 games to go. So what's the turn of phrase for their having less than less than no chance?

So I do give LJ credit for some part of our promotion. But not for "us getting promoted". You do not give him any credit, and that is your right. But you cannot be allowed unchallenged to use false statements to give your arguments some sort of validity.

    Let it go.

That was my comment at the time and I stand by it. He would not have got us promoted. My opinion.

I am not having this conversation with you anymore.

I lost any respect for the tiddler when I saw him on January transfer deadline day at the old post office with Patrick and Mansford. The vertically challenged one was constantly on the phone outside and let his starter go cold.
What kind of psychopath allows their starter to go cold?

Hey has Vern Troyer rolled out his wallchart at Bristol?

When he left, we used it to rearrange exit from the club car park.

It's not perfect, bul I sometimes get home from Saturdays game just in time to set off for the Tuesday one.

The wife just ignores me generally.

If she did post she'd seem a little like Dragon Tyke as he uncorks his third Beaujolais of the early evening.

Cider-fella. Firstly, it is good to have you come on here.

You can see that Lee is disliked around here. I'd just like to add more weight to the line that he was supported (even protected) by our owner. Patrick kept him on in the face of a terrible run of results and performances. Patrick absorbed tremendous pressure to give Lee his chance to turn it around. Just as a couple of good results happened, Lee was offered the job in Bristol and he was gone.

There is not much to Lee.

Correct, Josh was stretchered off at Altrincham which was unfortunate as he was the only one who seemed to try that day!

The seeds of the turn round could probably be traced back to the preceding league game at Coventry when we rallied from a truly pathetic and abysmal (and bloomin' cold) first half 2-0 deficit to 'win' the second half 3-2 playing good attacking football. He started the game with one of his whacky formations (a lop-sided 5-3-2 as I recall given Ryan Kent the freedom of Coventry) and I understand that when he tried to go even more bizarre at half-time the players told him to basically **** off, let them play 4-4-2 and just play football simply.

There was also a crisis meeting on the morning of the Altrincham game between Cryne, Johnson and Mansford where decisions about obtaining Hamill and others were taken. This was what probably saved him after the game - tempting as it must have been to fire him after that they'd already agreed the need for re-inforcements.

We then had a further two disappointing performances, nearly going out of the JPT with a dismal performance at home to York, rescued by some magic from Adam on his comeback and a toothless defeat at home to Port Vale. It wasn't until the away game with Oldham that we started to improve - no coincidence in that this was Kevin Long and Aidy White's first games and Marley Watkins returned.

For me the Oldham game was the first big turning point and the second was the 90th minute equaliser from Conor at home to Sheff Blunts two games later. We'd lost at Peterborough in between and so another defeat would have stalled all momentum. We hadn't played well against the Blunts and so that late goal felt like a winner.

We then had some decent results around the Christmas and New Year period but were still shipping goals with the likes of his favourites, Wabara and Nyatanga still featuring heavily.

It wasn't until Shrewsbury away in mid-January that the 'classic' line-up arose, following the arrivals of Brownhill and Fletcher. Johnson only managed four league games with that team.

Thanks for the welcome mate, remember when Johnson was given the job here most city fans couldn't believe it,he wasn't liked when he played for us but I have to give him some credit for how we're playing this season and I don't think we've spent as much as some on here think we have, the African lad up front who we paid £5million for has been out injured for month's and will be out for a few more at least, big part of us doing well is josh brownhill going to be a top player if he continues to improve seen him in town a few times and seems a nice lad to.

' josh brownhill going to be a top player'

That was another measure of Lee's character. He took the mentorship and patronage of our Patrick and then he dogged us trying to try to suck out anything good that he had seen at Oakwell.
