As Sam is back on Saturday, what are folks views on celebrating vs a club you once played for?

I prefer an understated celebration, shows far more class, but I also have no problem if players wish to celebrate with their own fans.

Sam however over-stepped the mark by huge proportions in my opinion. He cannot complain if he gets a nasty reception.

I think if the player played for the previous club for a decent length of time and/or achieved things then yes, a muted celebration shows class. Don't get it when players don't celebrate against their former club having played only a handful of games.

Regarding Sam, he's clearly not a nice person and bit of pr1ck but he got a lot of abuse that day and as much as his celebration wound me up, I think he got a bit caught up in the momentum and was just giving it back. I imagine if he does score this time (Adam Davies please don't gift him another goal) he won't celebrate to that extent.

I'm sure he would celebrate like he did last time. He doesn't show any class at all.

Unsure how Winnall thought he would be received back at Oakwell following his actions and forcing the move on the day of Rimmos funeral. The guys clearly got no class in him considering the fact we had apparently managed to fulfil his childhood dream of winning at Wembley.

    He's a bad Apple.
He can do what he likes as far as I care as long as he doesn't score.
He was well out of order with his celebration last time and no doubt will be itching to score against us on Saturday.

    Don’t give a **** to be honest

Like when fans abuse a particular player then wonder why they rub in it when they score

    Can’t have it both ways

If winnall scores I’ll expect him to celebrate and so he should .

If Conor scored I wouldn’t expect him to celebrate but wouldn’t bother me one but if he did

It all depends on the circumstances. If a Hourihane, Watkins, Scowen, Bree etc scored against us I’d like to imagine it’d be pretty understated but if it was a fringe player who never made it here like a Stefan Payne, Jak McCourt etc then fair enough if they want to go crackers.

Winnall should have been dignified but he doesn’t give a damn about Barnsley fans as he chose to join one of our biggest rivals. He made a conscious decision to completely ruin his reputation with the club.

If he’d gone to a Derby originally from us & been dignified like Hourihane was he’d never have got a bad reception

Agree with most of it. And Winnall could have been the bigger man when he scored. But let's not forget he had been getting the dogs abuse on Twitter for a couple of months. Then the whole game upto his goal. As said above can't have it both ways. If you give a player stick you have to expect a reaction if they score.

Why was that? Cos he decided he wanted to announce his move on the day of rimmos funeral. Not a fan of giving ex players ****, but on this one he deserved every bit of it. Due to who he joined and how he did it and the day he did it.

No problem with former players celebrating with their team mates or supporters it's their job to score goals and win it's what they get paid to do. Celebrating and goading the fans who once supported you is totally different and shows a complete lack of class.

Not wanting to get into all that again its been done to death. Doesn't matter who started it or if you blame winnall for wanting to go. Just pointing out once a player is getting hammered by the fans if he does score a reaction is almost inevitable.

If he had class he would rise above it. He doesn’t.

Think they would had he moved on any other day than Rimmos funeral & how he reacted during the process & then look at Conor and how the fans treated him.

When Connor made basically the same choice but not a local rival.
If Rimmos funeral was such a big deal why did the club let him go for talks on that day? Why not when sheff wed came did we not just say we will get back to you after the funeral?
Never got all the hate about the deal being done on that day directed at Winnall. He could only go to Hillsborough to do the deal because Barnsley allowed it.

I hear this about getting abuse on Twitter.

Firstly Twitter is not compulsory, and any pro footballer on there should accept that they will get BOTH sorts of feedback. Good, and bad.

Secondly, the abuse he got will have been from a minority of fans. Probably less than 20, but his reaction was a proper two fingered salute to ALL Barnsley fans, starting at the Family stand lower East, all the way up the East, and when he ran out f breath / bottle / both he saluted the Ponty End for good measure. 12,000 fans, and all the staff and players at Oakwell who helped him better himself. I took exception to that. I used to sing his name, as did my daughter. I never once abused him on Twitter. He should have been bigger than that. To me it's the worst reaction by any pro footballer I've seen (maybe Adebayor also).

I don't disagree it was very poor. I just wasn't surprised by it. Footballers are just people too some are nicer than others. Arrogant you man pumped up with adreloane acts like a dick. I'm sure he won't be the last.
The sensible thing which i wouldn't mind any ex player doing is to celebrate with your own fans and players.

We did put out a message that day to say we wouldn’t be dealing with anything that day. What did Winnall or his agent put out. A pic of him signing at Sheff Weds. Again. Winnall showing his lack of class.

I can’t understand why anyone would defend his actions during the move. He deserved a move, just not how he did it.

Same, if he'd have gone to their fans it would have been fine.
