A woman who was featured on radio Sheffield is paid £67 JSA. She is now having to sell her home as she can't eat and heat her home. Is this the safety net Bevan intended? With Automation which is coming to many jobs there is likely to be 5 million people thrown on to the scrap heap in the next 5 years. So anyone who thinks it's cleaver to have a go at folk who are on benefits and the benefits system had better beware.
Are you looking after a disabled child or other dependant? Has your partner suddenly died/fallen ill or left you and now you cannot afford your commitments on one wage? Have you got commitments from when you had more money but was made redundant and now can't afford the payments you owe on your minimum wage? Have you got a backlog of debt that you got into when unemployed and is now eating into your minimum wage, making it impossible to survive? ... Or various other situations where someone needs to visit a food bank and doesn't smoke or drink. You seem to think that because you can manage in your situation that everyone else must have the exact same situation as you and so should be able to manage too. I have given you a tiny amount of circumstances where someone is working and may have need of a foodbank from no fault of their own.
YES I used to earn 20k a year until a spell in ccu forced me to cut down I could have quite easily spent the rest of my life on sick benefits but I'm a grafter so went back to work doing a menial job on min wage I struggle to get by but I cut my cloth accordingly some people will not do that they want everything and more it's got nothing to do with governments
Yes all valid points and benefits and many wages have been frozen for a few years while inflation is at 3%.
Zero hour contracts, no work no wages. Let that sink in...... go to social, payment delays like you wouldn't believe.......got that. Where do you suppose they get the cash from? Not everyone has people they can borrow off. Refuse jobs, sanctioned. People you see on telly, the exception.
Very few smoke or drink. They can’t afford to eat. They don’t waste money on fripperies. A chap came in on Tuesday. Not eaten for 3 days. On a zero hours contract used to do ok. Now 3 hours work in 6 weeks. Looking for another job. No luck so far. Can’t claim benefits. No money to get to work now even if offers some though will walk.
Have you ever seen outside the job centre the queue of people smoking their heads off before going in to sign on
Mortgage relief has now been stopped. You get a repayable loan instead that covers part payments You used to get payments to cover the interest only part of a mortgage some lenders accepted this some not. Now you get a repayable loan that covers up to 80 percent of the interest changed September.
I do understand my point is people won't cut their cloth they still want their big tellys their sky their iPhones you need to live within it means
No you don't. I got one payment of £200 whilst being on jsa for 6 months mortgage was 400 at the time just finished paying off the arrears. You seem to have a blinkered view of people who claim jsa, I was a warehouse operations manager for an international company splitting my time at the warehouse in Dodworth, 3 days a month in London and twice a year in the states. We were sold down the river by our American owners, put into administration and unfortunately the company sold off in bits leading to 400 redundancies across the UK. I had run the warehouse for over 10 years, 2 different companies and most of the staff had been with me for 10 plus years. We were more like a family than boss and employees so to start having to make decisions on who needed to go and be made redundant and who would stay to help run the business down was heartbreaking and soul destroying. When the warehouse closed I suffered from depression, didn't know what I was going to do next and took me 5 months to snap out of it. Attending the job centre was a massive wake up call and something I don't want to go through again. Currently on a job 20k a year less but I'm slowly building my way back up to management, not everyone claiming benefits are scroungers or bone idle they are in the system because of circumstances beyond their control.
Ok what's better jsa at 120 a fortnight or a menial job at 200+a week I know which I would choose Then again jsa not that bad free prescriptions free dental ' optical
Again no one visiting food banks buys those things now. They may own them from previous periods of more secure employment. If I buy a big tele today and lose my job in 3 years time it doesn’t mean in 3 years I will be buying a big tele whilst visiting food banks does it. In another example a working parent in insecure employment has other than her bed and the furniture in the kids room sold every thing of value to buy food now visits us at the food bank because she has nowt worth selling.
Which would you chose? If its not work using those figures you have even less mental capacity than I thought having read your posts.
