Who edges it as the best ever English centre half? I would have said the world but Dennis Souza sneaks into first.
Dennis Souza was the best centre half in the world, but for one game only - vs Chelsea in the FA Cup. What a performance. According to Wikipedia, he is still playing - albeit in the Luxembourg first division.
Ethan Pinnock has twice as many goals as what Stones scored for us, in considerably fewer appearances. That makes him at least 4 times better.
Stones never played centre half for us did he? And I think we’re a bit premature on Pinnock after all of three games.
Yes, Hedworth and Andy Duggan (anyone remember his New Year's Day goal in the 4-3 win at Hull?) - what a pair!
Chris Hedworth. A hair's breadth between him and Gary Coatsworth. Hedworth shades it though for his ability in goal.
my question is.. why didn't Hecky play Pinnock sooner? & playing Cavare and leaving Yiadom completely out of the squad means Yiadom is off?
I have yet to get over the shock of Ian Chandler scoring a hat trick in that game he made Kayode look good.
Yeah 1986-87, only played a handful of games but I remember him vividly coming up for a corner that day at Hull and toe-poking it through a crowded penalty area and then going bat-**** mental as it went in.
That was the season before I started going. Was it as insanely surreal as Gareth Williams scoring a hat trick against Southend (when Stan Collymore only managed to get one)?
Yiadom may well leave - but he wasn’t involved yesterday because he’d turned his ankle on Saturday (arguably the cause of the goal Reading scored) and wasn’t fit to play or be involved.
Think Pinnock was injured for a bit (ironically whilst both Jackson and Angus were out hence Pearson having a spell at CB). Also I thought he looked a bit shaky in pre-season and against Morecambe so Hecky was right to ease him in. I don't think it's a coincidence that prior to the Brentford game when he came in at HT we've only conceded 3 in 4.5 games, whereas in the previous 4 we'd conceded 11
Sometimes a combination of two players just work better than the obvious choices. Im glad for him, it's been a big step up and it sounds like he's done very well.
It was perhaps more surreal. Imagine if Paul futcher had just suddenly scored a hat trick. That was more likely to happen than Chandler scoring.
Because Jackson & Lindsay formed a good partnership & then when Jackson got injured Pinnock was also injured
