Worse team we've played all season. Lady caller on Radio Newcastle twice squeezed "we should be beating teams like Barnsley" into her moan. Sorry missus, not with that side. We were better all over the pitch today, with the exception of the final third as per usual - we all know that needs addressing. Had we been better with the final ball or shot, we could have halved our goal difference. Good, professional performance against a poor side, but you can only beat what's in front of you. Joint man of the match for the whole team today for ending an awful run and starting the new year with a 1-0 hammering.
I agree. By some distance the worst side in the division. But, without wanting to put a damper on an excellent result, I was a bit concerned that we did so much time wasting- pretty much after we scored. I thought it took us a long time to realise just how bad they were, and with that in mind we should have gone out and put them to sleep to avoid that awful period of nerves at the end. Although to be fair to Hecky, I think he sees that the current squad don’t have more than a goal in them, so the negative/solid approach is justified on the basis of what he has to work with.
We beat Sunderland 3 nowt at home and put 4 past Burton away so if argue we do have more than a goal in us. We were on a awful run and confidence is rock bottom. Hopefully that has gave us some belief and confidence and we can push on a little now.
Yes I was at those games, but we look a long way from a side that can rattle in the goals at the mo. My point was, on that early season form/confidence we’d have put six past a very very poor Sunderland team today BUT although a bit frustrated by our ‘tactics’ when we went in front, I do understand why we are adopting them. I’d just hate to think it was long term. If we wanted to play football in that way we might as well get Mourinho in and deliberately produce the most boring football the world has ever seen a la Porto, Chelsea, Real, Milan and now Man U. Often successful, don’t get me wrong, but what a snoozefest zzzzzzzzzz
I think we should be proud tonight, it was a big result while were on a dreadful run, which was desperately needed irrelevant how poor Sunderland were. Well done lads.
For the avoidance of doubt: 1. I agree - great result. 2. I understand why we are playing the way we are at the moment. But, 3. I wouldn’t like to think we’ll still be playing that way in a years time when hopefully we’ve survived and given the best coach i’ve Seen at this club in forty years the tools and the ability to manage.
I think we ought to be very proud. Whether we win or whether we lose, the players keep going and don't let their heads drop. If we can find some goals from somewhere, we will do well because don't let many in. Three games undefeated nar! We are a work in progress but there is a lot to be positive about. The support today certainly let the team know that we were happy. It was loud as ****. I thought we did well on Saturday and should have won. Created loads of chances. We carried that on today. Well ******* done, lads.
There fans on twitter were giving us some reyt stick on how a big club should'nt be loosing to tinpot clubs like us
Stayed overnight in Sunderland , a few nice bars but town centre could do with sprucing up and some money spending on it . Great result yesterday , combination of we played well and they are a poor team . Plenty of positves for 2018
