    Unless they've told us in no uncertain terms that he's not for sale, this is probably just the start. Interestingly, when my brother and I were discussing the situation, both buyback and annulling Holgate's sell-on clause were mentioned as possible levers, things which an Everton fan also suggests.

    Following the Stones transfer and the number of alleged attempts to buy out the sell-on clause, it really wouldn't surprise me if they attempted to weave this into any deal. Assuming that Mason goes for £20-25 million next time he's sold, that's around £3 million potentially for starters, but quite different to us paying £3 million in cash.

    To be honest I'm not sure how I'd feel about this, as while on the one hand if there's any chance of signing Joe Williams permanently I think we should try our utmost to make it happen, on the other hand allowing sell-on clauses to be bought out undermines our whole modus operandi.
