Much as I hate him the "overall majority" thing isn't a legitimate argument. Both candidates knew they weren't campaigning for the majority of the vote, and if they were they would have campaigned differently. Claiming Hillary deserved to win because she won the popular vote is like losing the FA Cup final 1-0 then suggesting that you should be awarded the win because you had more shots on target.

I'm certainly never going to defend Trump....but when you say outdated, I'm not sure that's the case...that is if you are suggesting newer systems are demonstrably better.
Our own system is old, but in 2011 we the electorate voted to retain it , I agree it was only tested against one alternative system, although I suspect we would have voted to retain it whatever system was on offer....but you only have to look at Angela Merkel, she failed to win enough support back in November and is still hanging on, trying to cobble together a coalition deal that, according to the German press is likely to be one that really satisfies nobody other than the minority party she has to pander to.
I'm not sure newer systems are necessarily better systems Tbh.

I agree there MK. Electing Trump was a massive act of desperation from the angry and dispossessed. I can understand that. How the Republican Party aren’t looking to replace him with someone less dangerous I’m not sure. I’ve read the Woolf book but didn’t see the This Week stuff.

Support is different to vote. The people supporting him are the GOP, Fox News, Bannon, Breibart and probably Putin. They are exploiting someone who is quite possibly mentally ill and the pain and anger of many of those 62 million voters. Those who voted for him because they are racists are definitely cnuts. Whatever percentage of the 62 million that is. Every single one.

It's definitely worth watching if you have a spare ten minutes at some point. Just fast forwards to the James Delingpole interview.

FPTP is unfit for purpose. It has been for years and is even more so now. It leads to economic and political stability as every decade we see we veer from left to right and back again. Stopping long term planning both in infrastructure and in social policy and fosters extremism. It has to go. The vote on AV was stupid it’s an awful system. Picking one example is not representing. Pretty much the whole of EUrope runs on Coalitions but even looking at Germany which country has had a stable Govt over the last 10 years better able to handle the financial crisis us or them.

James Delingpole is a rabid right wing republican who hates everything Obama did and stands for, I watched the interview and if anyone wants to listen to someone Tring to crawl up Trumps backside then listen to it.

It's called listening to a different opinion. Not being a rabid left winger or rabid right winger myself I'm open to listening to opinions from both sides.

I'm not sure if unfit for purpose is correct or not, having just had a look at a few other electoral systems, one benefit that it has is that it is very simple , and a third of the world's nations still use it .
Some of the others seem fiendishly complicated....particularly Germany's

    Trump.
On the minus side - he attacks the environment.
Which is always bad news as far as I'm concerned.

But on the plus side - he is so UN-politically correct.
    Which is so so refreshing.
And as such he is slowly but surely smashing the 'we can't talk about that' syndrome.
Latest one - is to call African countries shi.tholes.
And that's right to do so.
He's not called African people that - he's called the countries that.
Which they mostly are - these countries are governed by a high degree of corruption.

What do you think he doesn’t like about Obama? Other than the fact he’s a black man who got to be president. Take yesterday he tells a lie that any 13 year old with Google can disprove that the US embassy was sold by Obama. Tbe decision was Bush and it was leased not owned. He lies because he’s a racist piece of ****.

Theres no point even discussing changing the voting system until you start addressing voting fraud.
Otherwise its same **** over a different system.

Obama was just as horrible as trump . Expanded 2 wars into 7 , bailed the bank's while 5 million Americans got evicted , smashed the heads of wall street protestors , De unionised teachers , opened up the arctic to oil drilling , the list goes on . What I find odd is that everyone was ok with that , because he came across as a lovely person . Don't get me wrong , I dislike trump , but he s starting to reveal how corrupt the whole political process in America is .

Yes , exactly like the rest of them . You need to look up the actions of Nancy Pelosi , Chuck Schumer and Debbie washerman Shultz (the democrats ) , then you 'll have a better idea of how corrupt the whole system is . I'd also look up "super delegates " in the democrat selection process , very enlightening.

I'm disappointed the Trump visit has been cancelled. I enjoy a good protest. And probably with Jez waiting to tear him a new arsehole at the end, too. It might have just been enough to push the repulsive scumbag over the edge...
A missed opportunity, I think they call that...
