My memory goes back further than 2016. My memory goes back to 2002. If Patrick Cryne had not said reluctantly in 2002, OK I'm the one to save my club, who would have done so. My gratitude has less to do with what has happened since, and more to do with what happened then. The question that I would like to ask you is this, what sort of club would we be watching now if Mr Cryne had not stepped forward then.

He's right though. The ultimate reason for who we have and haven't signed and who we have and haven't sold has been Patrick Cryne for the last decade. He signs the checks, it's his money. If he WANTED to he could have pumped millions and millions in. I'm not saying that would be the right thing to do but as the owner the budget and players we choose to sign are ultimately decided by him saying yes or no.
    AFC Barnsley.

Oh sorry you said what club would we be watching if it WASNT for Patrick? God knows ;)

Reluctantly? He was so reluctant to have it that he offered John Dennis a £1m loan. If he wasn't repaid within twelve months the club was his. Are they the actions of a reluctant custodian?

I'll admit he appeared more reluctant when he flew off to New York and let Peter Doyle have the club.

Edit - Cryne took over the club in 2003. We went into admin October 2002.

If you want to dream up reasons why you should not give credit where credit is due, then you continue to do so, but the reasons given above are both inaccurate and wrong. The club prior to 2002 was not in John Dennis's gift. The shares were owned by a huge number of shareholders. Although John Dennis owned shares in the club, he did not own a majority. Mr Cryne tried to stop Peter Doyle taking over, believing he could negotiate a better deal with the Administrator if he was the only potential new owner. He was right too. Unfortunately, Doyle saw himself as the knight on the white charger and muddied the whole deal. As a result, the club cost Cryne more than it should have done. That is not heresay. That is what happened.

So the club cost Mr Cryne more than it should have done, and he still saved it. He has put even more money into the club over the years in order to cover its losses - and yet you still hate him. I also noticed that you did not answer my original question by the way, but I have chastised you about that before. I guess that you are just illogical. There are people like that, but it does not make it any easier to understand.

You are right about Cryne trying to get it on the cheap and it costing him more. Abart £5m. He must have appointed bad advisors.

You know what I mean when I said a loan to John Dennis. The fact that Cryne offered that board a loan or the club was his is a fact me owd. A gargantuan, indisputable mega FACT. You arguing on semantics dunt change that.

Doyle muddied the whole deal? Well, presumably he offered a better deal to the creditors than anyone else was prepared to do the administrator sold it to him.

Mr Cryne was recently quoted as saying he listened to his advisors who said he’d get it for less if he waited. Doyle got there first. Of course he had no ******* money and mortgaged the company to the hilt, where Mr Cryne/BMBC later had to pay off.

I don’t get your point in response to John Dennis. The offer was made, knowing quite well the club could not pay it back. The mistake JD made was not calling an EGM and putting the takeover offer to the shareholders. It would have been interesting to see what offer they would have got for their shares.

You will have to let me know how this loan thing works then because I am mystified. I understood that companies changed hands when their shares were sold and not because a creditor demands repayment of a loan. Surely that is how the club got into trouble in the first place. It had a loan with the bank which it could not repay and the bank appointed an Administrator. It is not fact. In fact the point that you make is deeply illogical. But let us get back to the primary issue here. Why do you hate Patrick Cryne?

It's not hearsay that SOMEONE funded a rival club which destabilised Barnsley FC at a crucial time when it was vital everyone was pulling together either is it?

You are saying AFC Barnsley was set up to destabilise the club. You believe the club was stabilised until AFC Barnsley was set up..... Really?

Cryne offered the Dennis regime a loan of £1m. It had to be repaid within twelve months or the club was Cryne's. I'm sure you can grasp that.

Hate? Behave. Anyway, hate is an emotion. You deal in logic.

No it isn’t fact at all. NatWest “advised” the club not to use its £250k overdraft facility. This in effect starved the company of working capital and thwarted the efforts the board had been making to cut costs and rein in the losses - they needed more time and support and the NatWest shafted them.

It was not exactly a loan the club couldn’t afford per se.

Mr Cryne made an offer of a £1 million loan to the old board as he knew, being a major club sponsor etc that they were facing financial trouble. The caveat was that if it was not repaid within 12 months then he would get control of the club. This was declined and it’s a major reason why Mr Cryne did not like Mr Dennis

You’d have to ask both persons involved as to the anticipated mechanics of what would happen in the event of a default.

I don't think it's been stable at all since itv digital went under. We've been living day to day relying on loans and gifts whilst losing money week after week

Have you read John Dennis' book - The Oakwell Years? I'd recommend it, it's very good. Haven't read it for a few years, so I've just picked it up to check a few things. According to Mr Dennis, Mr Cryne was in discussions with the BFC board to invest in the club months before we entered administration. The book is categorical about this and provides detail of how far talks had advanced to the point where a proposal was put to the board.

The directors had dug a hole for themselves that it was impossible to escape from. They were commiitted to ongoing costs that were swamping them. Administration was the only practical way out. But your comments are going away from the essential logic of what I was saying. Why is any of this a reason to hate Patrick Cryne?

Perhaps the time to judge is at the end of the window, not with a fortnight to go... I'm sure the lad's working hard to make things happen.

Not correct. The board had a rescue plan and were cutting costs to survive. The NatWest gave them no option but to seek the protection from creditors that administration offered, especially when a deal to save the club with other investors collapsed at the 11th hour.

It’s interesting you make no allowances for the unique circumstances the club found itself in due to the collapse of ITV Digital - money that should have come in as per the contract - why not plan to spend it?!

Who is talking about hating Mr Cryne? A total and irrational overreaction.
