If the new West Stand is the same footprint and height as the current stand then the planning application wouldn't fail.

I thought that was how all fans felt about their club. Apart from the armchair Man Utd and Liverpool fans I mean.

I do not want to get too far into this as I am seen as being far too critical of Mr Dennis, and after all, it is a long time ago, but this is how I remember things from back then.

There was a doubt about ITV Digital, right from the start. They seemed to have offered more than the market rate, and there was a doubt whether the public wanted to watch lower division football. There was very much a sense that it was an attempt to copy the SKY model, but that the new company lacked the financial clout or the domination that being first to the market had given SKY. There were rumours in the financial press for months before the S hit the F. Barnsley FC was hit worse than most because we were already stretched to the limit. The ITV Digital money was not the icing on the cake, it was the cake. It is all well and good offering excuses after the worst has happened, and there is no doubt that the collapse of ITV Digital was the final straw, but the club had been in trouble for a long time. It had tried to compete with the big boys after falling out of the Premier League for just that bit too long. We all wanted to be part of football at the highest level, but it is the first job of any company board of directors to make sure the company continues to exist. The board of Barnsley Football Club failed in that duty, and whilst many of our supporters forgive them for that, because Premiership football was what they too wanted more than anything, I do not. They nearly lost my club, and I do not know what I would have done with myself if I did not have my club to talk about, and matches to look forward to. Mr Cryne gave me my club back, and I will always be grateful for that. It is more important, to me at least, that I have a club, rather than I have a club that competes at the top level.

You would have had AFC Barnsley then. Problem solved.

Now I know you don't go to the 23s games as the first team players, in general, give about 50% effort and tend to have no interest. Perfect examples are Cavare, Fryers and Pearson. The only player I can honestly say looked a cut above the rest and gave 100% is Pinnock v Hull.
23s have played well in several games, playing attractive football. The really bad performances have been Sheff Utd away and the second half v Bolton. Fridays game against Birmingham was spoiled by the conditions and both teams were poor

Stop talking nonsense. Yes I did go to u23 games or 90% of them and was even messaging whitey the Sunday night before to see how the game was about going to middlewood a few week ago.

To say the u23s don't change when the first team players are involved just silly and not the true. When cavare or Thiam, Pearson Jackson's... played you can see the difference the team gets from that.

You think Cavare performed in his 2 appearances???? Seriously???.....Thiam did nothing in his one game. Pearson walked after 20 mins to leave the team in the mire after a stupid challenge. Fryers was heard after his one game asking "what am I doing here". Jackson did alright on Friday but Williams was poor, especially second half. All the best performances for the 23s has been when it has been mainly 23s players with the exception of Millwall at home . The Sheff wed game at home was a perfect example, almost a team full of first teamers held by a virtual Wednesday 18s.

If Fryers said that then he shouldn’t play for us again, added to the fact imho he’s a bit gash anyway.

For someone who always demands the very best, you seem a bit too relaxed about beginning again from the foot of the football pyramid.

Why do you think that I would have been relaxed about it?

If needs be it would have continued as a phoenix club. I would not want to see that as I hate to see us below the second tier, although it's better than no club. Some would be happy to have a club in the NW Counties League.

Would it have been the same club, or would it have been a new club. I do not actually know the answer to that question, and thanks to God and Mr Cryne, I did not have to find out. It would not just have been a new club. I'm sure they would have played in red albeit at a totally different standard. The problem is that the Administrator would have sold the ground as well. Even our temporary stand in owner was looking for smaller and less expensive accommodation. When a club enters administration, everyone loses control. I do not like to think what could have happened had Patrick Cryne not saved the day.

Other phoenix clubs have kept their grounds after liquidation - Aldershot Town, Chester, FC Halifax. They also play in the exact same colours with the same badge.

This is not me saying I am not relieved that the club was saved but there would have still been a club of some description to support. More than likely playing at Oakwell in red shirts and white shorts.

Perhaps this is the root of our difference of opinion. I am very much of the view that the club would not have still occupied Oakwell if things had gone differently. You see, the administrators role is to collect as much cash as he can in order to settle the club's debts. He was appointed by the courts at the request of the bank and his role is laid down in law. If the court appoints an administrator, it does so because it feels that, not only can the company not pay its debts, it has also no prospect of paying its debts. The court is effectively protecting the company from its creditors until such time as the administrator has had the time to preside over an orderly close down of the business and sale of assets. The old company that ran Barnsley FC was wound up, and the new company is called Barnsley FC (2002) Ltd. We have what we have because Mr Cryne bought what remained of the football club from the Administrator and Mr Cryne and Barnsley MBC formed another company to buy the ground, which they rent to the football club. There is no guarantee that all that would have happened without the intervention of Mr Cryne and you telling me that other clubs are continuing to play at the same grounds gives no no confidence as I do not know their circumstances. I think that you are far too confident that everything would have been resolved to our advantage. As I say, the appointment of an administrator takes matters out of our hands.

So other clubs still occupy their grounds, you admit you do now know how they did it but you are certain it would not have happened to Barnsley FC. How does that work?

Were the administrators/liquidators not doing the same jobs at BFC, AFC, CCFC and HTFC?

I guess they were, yes, but I do not know the individual details of each Administration. Here are a few questions.

    Who bought those clubs?
Did the same person who bought the clubs also buy the grounds.
Does the club own their ground now or does it rent it.
What other offers did the administrator have for those grounds, that is, did he have a better offer but turn it down in order to sell it back to the football club.

Look, I was devastated at the time we were into administration because anything could have happened. There was the possibility that the ground would be sold to a third party, and no matter how you try to bully me into saying something else, those were my thoughts at the time. I genuinely thought that I could lose my football club. I am not just trying to win an argument. That is what I thought. Furthermore, I believe that when Mr Cryne purchased the club from the administrator, he kept the ground separate from the rest of the business because he never again wanted the club to be able to take out a loan that it could not afford using the ground as security. I believe that he too thought the club had borrowed a sum that it could not hope to repay, and that he never wanted that to happen again. In other words, he wanted the club to live within its means. Whether it did that is another matter, but he put his hand in his pocket when he made a mistake, and that does him great credit.
