I still think it’s meh. Sorry for not getting excited as you about a player l have never heard of from a club l have never heard of. We’re allowed to not be excited aren’t we? I think this signing would be great in the summer but not one for a relegation scrap, Hecky said he needed players for now and in his interviews he’s mentioned plenty of times Thiam needs to get up to speed with the English game and things off the field like his language skills, would this player not be the same? I wasn’t excited by Moore, l certainly didn’t hammer him as you put it, I’d give the guy a chance first. My concern was that he was deemed not good enough by Big Mick a club in our division, l was unaware about his Yeovil experience at the level and l also commented that l was coming round to the idea that he’s a good signing. It’s a different option for us and l hope he does well for us. Who wouldn’t wish that for our own players? Evans was a regular at a club like Wolves last season, l’d think it was a good signing.
Didn’t really hammer him, just wasn’t excited and cautious due to Mick not wanting him, as explained above. So l’ll disregard this.
Not exactly a completely unknown club being in top french division. Guessing you don't follow french league at all then
It wasnt a dig. I heard of team yes, not the player. I bet outside the english leagues sometimes so you get to know most teams in top leagues in europe
Up until a few years ago I went round Europe watching many teams, in Spain but mainly in Italy - games involving Milan, Inter, Juve, Atalanta, Lazio, Palma. Visited the Olympic stadium, San Siro (quite a few times ) & the new Juve stadium. l also followed England home and away for many years, did around 10-15 away games, including The World Cup in Germany. So it’s not like l haven’t took an interest in football abroad. Amiens have only been a professional club since 93 and played mainly in the lower reaches have they won two promotions on the bounce? I’m not surprised l haven’t heard of them.
Both have failed to make an impact so far higher than league 2 although mcgeehan has had less game time like I say hope the loan goes well and he gets back on track after a bad injury.
Nah, surely not? The Spacker was far beyond Joe Pasquale for me, although I readily admit that I was lucky enough to have been nowhere near Altrincham that fateful day. Watching us under Bodges also seemed to be a never ending tunnel of darkness, although to be fair circumstances need to be taken into account. Paul Hart on the other hand had a very decent budget but never got us much further than mid table in the 3rd tier. Plus he looked like a human potato.
Just edges it for me. He took a team with the best midfielder we have had since Redfearn. The best forward we have had since Currie and defenders we sold for more than 12 million quid to the bottom of L1. Same team had Watkins and Scowen in it. That’s some management to fail with that team. And yes Altrincham.
To be fair he also turned it round though. Gets a lot of stick LJ but i think he is clearly a decent manager who will have a good career. Bit of a **** mind.
True it was never going to be easy after a bad injury we took a gamble signing him he is a talented lad just hope he gets back to where he was before the leg break.
I think every signing is a gamble but this one was after his injury. I'm not writing him off just yet though and I hope he comes good. Pretty sure Chelsea paid 800k to sign him as a school boy from fulham so no doubt he his a talented lad.
I haven't got an axe to grind on this, it's purely a discussion contribution but I think its too easy to forget the lack of experience of LJ and the lack of experience in the team at the time of that run. They were all young and some still adapting to a higher level. They had the ability but not the mental know how to cope with a bad run. It's the same with this current squad. Within five or ten games players get written off. They're young. It takes a long time to settle and produce consistency. Confidence in sport is massive. Look at the way we surged up the table when that group in 2016 clicked. Equally lack of confidence and experience can be fatal. All that said I still don't know if Johnson is or will be a good manager. For every bad run he's had he can point to an equally good one.
Many school kids do, Jacob Mellis was signed for a million by Chelsea at 17. They've signed a fair few like that. The big thing here is that we risked a possible £1 mil with an initial outlay of 900k on an injured player when many on here said we couldn't gamble that type of money on players. Nobody has a clue only the hierarchy on what we were prepared to spend and whether or not we were going to gamble on players. Those types of fees are nothing now in this league, which is what l said at the time. Same with the new owners, who has a clue what stupid money is to them? We won't know their intentions until they've done some work off the field in the summer. We've spent over £1.5 million on two players already we've never done that in a January window before. M
Odd then what he has achieved at Bristol, at least this season if not last. Just goes to show that sometimes we are all in the "right" place, and sometimes in the wrong place.
I watched mcgeehan before his leg break for Luton v villa he really stood out in that game and scored. If he doesn't get injured he would have probley cost us more than 900k and let's not forget the lad is still only 22 he has time to recover from the injury I didn't expect him to come straight into the 1st team and start ripping this league up. I'm hopeful that before his contract ends he will be a decent player for us. I may be proved wrong time will tell. Also people were shocked we paid 500k for pinnock who had no football league experience b7t that one is looking good so far.
