There’s no doubt that we’ve lost a very good manager but ones thing for certain with the business done last month we’re left with a far better squad than we had August - January. Managers can make differences but ultimately players make the major differences & we’ve now got 4 strikers to choose from & we’ve got 4 wingers fit & available with Isgrove & Hedges back fit & Mahoney joining. We’ve got solid options in central midfield with Gardner up to speed & we’ve got plenty of options at the back. He’s left what should’ve been a team cast adrift at the bottom outside of the relegation zone & with a much better squad for the remainder of the season. Now’s the time to get behind them, get some of that spirit back that we had when Flitcroft took over from Hill & back whoever it is that takes charge. We had a better January window than Burton, Bolton, Sunderland & Hull, it’ll be a struggle but we’ve got a good chance of staying up
Have we lost a good manager? On paper, if you looked at the stats, have we really? Yes he's a Barnsley lad, he always said the right things, but is that a good manager?
I just hope that the new arrivals aren't too unsettled by the news. It can't be a good thing to see your manager voluntarily jump ship just days after you've signed for a club (and he was presumably involved in the recruitment process).
I think so. Over achieved in his first season, definitely over achieved last season & even this season I think he has. Many had us down to do a Rotherham. It’s a miracle we’re outside bottom 3 with how bad & unbalanced the squad was pre-January. If someone would’ve said you’re going to spend the first 5 months of this season with Yiadom missing the first 2 months, Isgrove, MacDonald, Cavare & Gardner barely playing, Davies to be in bad form & Hecky only having 3 strikers to choose from with one unfit & another not ready for championship football all after losing 8 of his first 11 from the season before yet we’ll still be outside of the bottom 3 I would’ve 100% taken that.
He could have made a major balls up. In leaving behind a better squad than he had August - January there’s a fair argument that even an inferior manager will do better at Barnsley because the teams better. On top of that he could be become the latest Leeds managerial casualty & then the job he’s done at Barnsley won’t get the credit it deserves & he’s been axed by Leeds
Agreed. We've brought in Mahoney, knasmulner, Moore, Mcburnie, Pennyless and Mills. 4 attack minded players from the 6. Start scoring and we've a chance.
Just from looking at the stats ,if we start scoring we'll have better than a chance - we'll be comfortable.
We'd all been impressed with the new cental defensive partnership and Cavare had been doing well. Midfield is a bit in and out but I reckon that if Moore and Mcburnie can keep Tommy tap in out of the starting line up, we'll be doing better.
Certainly if nothing else looks more balanced in terms of the options available. Quality sadly is a another thing entirely.
