Don't often pay much attention to Talksport's resident Ginger Whinger but tonight he said what a lot of us might secretly be wishing for in that the Owners should go all out to get Big Mick from Ipswich. His contract is up at the end of the season so he may not be as far out of reach as we might think. Durham also suggested that if we can't get him now we should go for him as soon as he's out of contract. The bloke actually seemed passionate about it. The only fly in the ointment is that we could be in League One by the time he comes on the market so maybe it's not such a daft idea to try now.
Mick loves Barnsley. He loves the club. He loves the people. For that reason I doubt he would ever manage us. Hasn’t he said as much in the past.
Would be my ideal choice, would he be interested though? I have heard so many conflicting stories on his interest in managing us in the past ranging from he never wants the job to the point where he was holding out for us come in for him (think that was a few years ago before he took the Ipswich job)
I may be wrong but I thought he said that he wouldn't leave a job to come to us. If he's out of contract in the summer then maybe it's feasible. He'd be my choice.
Don’t get me wrong. Would love it. Besides, How long has it been since we had one of our own managing us...!
Thing I love about Macca is that he shrugs off abuse...but I think it would hurt more if (when) it came from his own.
Winstanley in 2001 was the last Barnsley man in the hot seat, although as caretaker. Beyond that I think its Angus Seed back in 1953. 65 years since we had one of our own in charge its high time we gave Mick the rallying call.
He has said to someone I know, and someone who would absolutely no motive to make this up, that he would love to come back home and manage Barnsley. This was a few years ago as an answer to a hypothetical question.
Aye don't forget that idiot who had a go at PH and NW at the end of the Fulham game . Another piece of the jigsaw in PH leaving ?
Macca coming in for next season would be both a Footballing and Marketing masterstroke in my view. Season Ticket Sales, Bums on Seats and all that!
Mick is reluctant to manage Barnsley in case it all went pear shaped. He doesn't want to tarnish his hero status here. This situation could be ideal for him though. No-one would blame him if we did get relegated and there's every chance he would get us straight back up.
So by that token any manager we now appoint has carte blanche to get us relegated. No blame attached.
