Unbelievable and childish nonsense being spoken about Hecky on here in the last 24 hours. This man has just overseen our best season and a half since 1999/2000. It would probably have been even better had our then owners not pulled the rug from under his team. It's quite clear that even with new, wealthier owners our club has not matched Paul Heckingbottom's ambition. It's time they explained fully just what their intentions are, because for me, they've got off to a poor start.

There’s probably a bit of truth in that.

There’s probably a bit of truth in what others are saying.

You can explain away the timing and the contract though. It looks very fishy to me.

I don't agree but that's fine. GG seemed shocked by the departure, heckys contract was agreed weeks back it was tweaks and timing. He was backed in the transfer window I believe and if ever loyalty should be in football I was sure it would be here, my faith in football loyalty has truly gone now like so many others on here feel.
I bet he just didn't get the forest,Norwich and Sunderland jobs not that he wanted to stay here and why he changed agents, I also think here will be a lot of players pleased he's gone because how can you sell a plan if the main man doesn't want any part of it.
Mcdonald leaving, hammill form, Davies confidence, Bradshaw being forced to play a certain way leading to no goals in a while, mallan thiam, brown, bird etc know your role, potts mcgheehan mowatt all gone from good to poor players, moncur attitude played out of position. This may all be ****** but a good number of players may be glad he's gone and we may just see an upturn. I think he may be just a ruthless moody man. I'll positively now look forward to a new start.

Agreed, it's unbelievable. Happens every single time someone chooses to leave the club. Whether Heckingbottom's decision to move to Leeds is the right one remains to be seen. The fact is that he sees it as the right one for his family and his career and I'd wager there's not a man jack of the ones currently sticking the knife in who'd do any different if they were faced with the same decision.

He does owe us nothing that is correct. However, his manner of departure has not been the classiest.

He’s a victim of his own rhetoric, in time he may understand how his earlier words and views have contributed to the disappointment felt by many fans.

The myth was that he was different, the truth is he turned out to be just like all the rest with one exception.

I don’t begrudge him the move - it was one of the first things I said

However, the way it has been done has left a bitter taste. It wasn’t the move per se.

Would your opinion change if it was apparent that he had been in talks with Leeds during his contract negotiations with us?

As long as he's not stitched us up financially as a result, no.

The only justification for that statement would be if he hadn't been making an effort recently. As I see it he's done two jobs until GG was finally appointed, helped keep the ship steady through Patrick's illness and then decided the time was right to move on. He no doubt understands the fickleness of football fans if you're not doing well. You only have to read this forum over the last 24 hours to have that particular point driven home.

I think your criticism of the new owners is harsh , in a very short space of time , they have had to oversee an immediate transfer window which appears they have backed Hecky , they had concluded a new contract with Hecky which again he appears happy to have signed but they have had to deal with all club issues an act in a sensitive manner due to circumstances we all understand & certainly no one would have welcomed a brash bull in the china shop attitude & while all this has been going on , we have been dropping like a stone , not exactly a honeymoon period , cut them some slack & see how things develop

Some might say he won the JPT with the momentum of Lee Johnsons team . Some might also say that with regards to promotion because we almost missed out on a play off spot . We don't know anything about the owners intentions just yet , they could either be like the Bournemouth , Burnley , Watford owners or god forbid the Venkys .

Don't think too many begrudge Paul a move to a no doubt bigger club. But the timing of it, the new contract and following interview, the taking of back room staff, the obvious underhanded activity. This is what people find hard to stomach

I agree with a lot of what you say and there’s no doubt at times he did a brilliant job here, I just think there is something very odd about him signing a contract 4 days before moving to Leeds.

It means he was most likely in discussion with Leeds whilst those negotiations were going on and that doesn’t sit right with me when we are talking about ‘his club’. If he had been having those discussions he would probably have been speaking with his colleagues that have jumped ship.

I think his whole departure lacks class and I am very disappointed in someone who professsed to have a love for the club and who I thought was a professional. Maybe I am just being naive.

Had he come out and said he wants to better his career and family and it’s a big opportunity etc I could have lives with it but all the noises are that he doesn’t give a flying **** about Barnsley FC.

    Anyway, on we go.

I'd be disappointed too if he doesn't make some sort of statement to reds fans. However, it's only been 24 hours and, if he reads this forum, he might now feel that any statement he does make will be thrown back in his face.
The ins and outs of his departure are, and will probably remain, supposition. Despite that and the fact that everybody foes know he's a lifelong Barnsley fan there are still some who would vilify him.
As you say though, time to move on.

Load of *****. He owes us a lot. He would not be a professional manager without the opportunities for progression afforded by BFC and he would not still be in the job with his recent run of form at any other club. If ranieri can be sacked heckingbottom is very lucky.

The NCB gave me a job and opportunity for progression back in 1980. I must be utterly disloyal for leaving.

Totally agree CT. I've been following all the developments closely. He really had no need to say the things he has
done since he left. He really should have said something complimentary about his time at Oakwell, after all we have stood by him during the bad as well as the good times. If he'd also have qualified his plaudits in joining Leeds by saying something like " it's not everyday somebody offers to make you a millionaire" I would have respected his decision more , because that's what this is all about. If he thought Barnsley fans can be critical just wait for the outpouring of vitriol from that cosmopolitan mob ifthings don't go to plan for him. I worked with quite a few Leeds fans. Their criticism when they are consistently losing is
    unrelenting.
