Anyone watching spacex launch? Should be pretty impressive. http://www.spacex.com/webcast putting a tesla car in elliptical orbit around mars and the sun lol and simultaneously landing multiple rockets.rocket science! Lol Take a break from the manager merry go round and see the future.
Pretty Damn cool. landing the two booster rockets simultaneously on adjacent landing pads looked like something from a scifi movie.
I need to get SpaceX as a customer. I already have NASA and The Space Ship Company, the guys who are building Virgin Glalactic spacecraft, are currently trialling our software. Those 3 logos would look great on our website next to each other
The simultaneous landing was summat else. Wonder if the core ended up in the drink? They failed to show it after it landed. Wonder if telescopes will be able to pick out the tesla at all? Probably way too small but satellites can be seen so maybe.
The Tesla, which is Musk's old car, is now on an elliptical orbit heading for Mars with a dummy in a space suit in the driver's seat and David Bowie songs on a loop on the stereo. Surreal.
Just fantastic. Science may save us from ourselves yet. Just waiting for the counter perspective from the tree huggers now.
Had the fortune of watching a Falcon 9 rocket launch last August. It was only a single rocket, but the noise and air vibrations when it hits you a few minutes after you see it raise into the sky, is just amazing. About 5-6 minutes later the booster rocket was seen returning to earth like a large slow shooting star. But a minute or 2 after that, there's a sonic boom from the re-entry. We watched it for free from Space View park in Titusville. This video doesn't do it justice as it was taken with an iphone. Noise hits you at about 1min 40secs. Didn't get the re-entry or sonic boom as didn't expect to see it. https://photos.app.goo.gl/zjBc3CY9CkZB4qJt1 Here's the official video
Was sat on one of the piers in front of Veterans Memorial Park https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place...a4b0f950!8m2!3d28.6136581!4d-80.8041299?hl=en We did plan on watching from the Kennedy Space Centre, but the original launch got put back. So we ended up hiring a car and took a chance it would go on the rescheduled date. What about you?
Pretty much the same story! Had tickets to Kennedy for the abandoned launch - it was so busy that we missed the final bus tour so decided to sack it off and try our luck on Playalinda Beach. Got there - they closed the beach because of lightening in the area (7 miles away). Drove up to Jetty Park, got on the end of the pier to then be told that it'd been called off. We just went straight back to Jetty Pier for the 2nd attempt - decent view from there and closer (miles wise) than we would have been on the gantry at Kennedy. I thought it was a tad underwhelming but really odd to see the orange glow up in the sky a good 6 seconds or so before the noise of the engine roar reached you.
Went to Florida in 2010 and it was the final Discovery space shuttle launch while we were there - saw it on the pad when we went to Kennedy Space Centre and was all set to go and watch the launch a few days later....it had a fuel leak so launch date was delayed and eventually launched about 2 days after we came home - gutted!
