I think this is just someone at Skynobet saying "Hang on! Mick McCarthy's from Barnsley!". The likely new appointment is probably less fathomable to us than usual because of the new owners' contacts in other countries.
I would LOVE IT in Kevin Keegan style to be true. The running down of the contract seems to give a 'planetary alignment' to it all. Just not sure that he'd work under our recruitment arrangement though
I think Jim Cryne might have a bigger say in the running of the club than we think, if so I’d go Harsley or Cowley, if I wrong you’re quite right and it could be anyone.
As much as I would love this to be true, didn't he once say he would find it hard to manage us, as he would be scared of failing at a club he loves to bits? If we DID get him, it would bring a whole new meaning to "One of Our Own!"...
I used to dream of Big Mick one day taking the Barnsley job. Now I'm a bit older and wiser I sincerely hope he doesn't. Let's leave some heroes untarnished.
I'd love to see Mick back at the club. However, though he's a hero of mine and of fans of a similar age, that won't cut it with others. With the first bad run will come the comments like "Why did we appoint him?", "He only got the job because he's a Barnsley lad and 'one of our own'", "At his age, he's a football dinosaur", "I didn't want him anyway". I don't like seeing my Barnsley heroes tarnished.
Horse's mouth, Gordon. I've worked with Mick many times; he told me JD had approached him 'at least' three times, but that he could never do it - too much to lose. He might have changed his mind as he's got older, I guess - not seen him for a couple of years.
Don't odds lower if more people put money on. Does this affect the people actually making the decision.
Ex Reds hero, Kerching more money int satchel. Roll up roll up come an gerrit. Redfearns odds tumbling on Thursday lads.
I've always dreamed of him coming back but I agree with other comments about a hero being tarnished. Thankfully Ronnie Glavin failed at Emley so he wasn't brought in (he did come back as a coach though).
I'd love him to do it. No nonsense, passionate, common sense, organised and doesn't mind playing a bit of football if the players are there. I can understand why he may say he'd be tarnished, but from a fans perspective, what Danny did for the club, his second hampered effort to manage the shambles and even the way he left first time... he's still absolutely a hero. So come back Mick, sometimes destiny is just meant to be.
Mick might just have warmed to the idea as he has aged and mellowed - but he'd only ever come back to MANAGE Barnsley. He'd want full control of football matters and wouldnt have any truck with being a Head Coach of someone else's players. So nothing to see here. In my humble opinion.
