Just rewatched Heckys interview from 2nd Feb on IPlayer. Would encourage everyone to do the same.

Seems happy, relaxed, only speaks positively about the club, the fans, the staff, the future

Seems so strange that he was off 3 days later.

Like a lot of people I find it hard to believe the contact on Monday was the first he had heard from LUFC but then that theory is so at odds with the man I've just watched talking about how he still gets a buzz from working for his hometown club. He must be an amazing poker player

You can fool all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but not all of the people all of the time. Unless of course you're Paul Heckingbottom!

Do you honestly believe that? Not saying I disagree with you, but do you honestly believe he was telling a bunch of lies

    Somethings wrong.
It just does not add up.
Why would the manager jump ship to a poorer club - a club he’s hated all his life - that hires and fires at the drop of a hat - and then sign a short term contract with them.

All I can think of is this, either:
    1) They’ve paid him a shed load of money up front.
    2) He doesn’t like how the new owners do things.

Spoke to the girl on the Barnsley stall in the Alambra today and she says everyone at Oakwell is just Flabbergasted at what’s happened.
    Everyone looking for answers.

It's 350k with us for the next 12 months or 1.5M with Leeds for the next 12 months. What would you do?

That's not the point. The point is had he been approached by Leeds before Feb 2nd. And if he had how could he speak so warmly and passionately about his job at oakwell and the future? Of course he wouldn't come out and say he was going, but I was looking closely for hints, signs he was unhappy or considering leaving, but it was all smiles, and warm words about the future from which I can only presume one of two things:

    A) the first he knew about Leeds interest was Sunday night
    B) he's a very good liar

    Really hope it's not b!

Really can't see what it matters. He's been linked with every Championship vacancy going so it wouldn't be a surprise if he was in Leeds' thoughts. It was up to us to provide him with a better squad and a better deal for himself. If Leeds overvalued him by 50% that's still twice as much as we offered. You get what you pay for. But hey! It's all opinions!

I doubt the gap is anywhere near that big, they were alleged to be paying Hockaday £40-60k just a few years ago. Seeing as they knew his release clause, there is no reason to pay him so much over the odds, especially as they know they'll likely only give him til the end of the season before sacking him if they aren't in the playoffs.

Under italian ownership, Leeds aren't renowned for paying way over the odds to get their targets.

    What's all this "overvalued" nonsense?

Honestly? Stay at Barnsley, because I'm a fan. I could close down my own business tomorrow and walk into a higher paying job somewhere else (admittedly ,for probably about 2x my salary rather than 4x). But I don't, because I care deeply about what I've set up, my customers, and its continued success.

Id take 350k a year to manage hometown club. 1.5mil for one season at most hated club wouldnt take me away from a club that wouldnt sack me even in relegation zone with 1 win in like 16.. but rather give me a new contract. Now that is a club worth managing

You say 350K like it is an insignificant amount. Take most people more than a decade to earn that. I guess it depends on what values are important to you and where money sits as a priority.
Personally I would have stayed with the club I love, where I felt wanted. If my club finished with me then so be it, but I wouldn't finish with them. I'd also do it for a lot less than £350K/pa.
He may well have an extra £1M in the bank (a lot less after tax), but it would cost you a lot more than that to make me sully my family name.

Some things are more important than money... well they are to me.

I'm impressed that folk on an internet bulletin board have access to the wage structures of Championship football clubs' managerial staff.

Nobody knows what people earn at football clubs. There's a lot of pillock goes on, and people fall for it.

Forget about the snake. He got lucky with team he got and took credit for. He's a cocksucker. Don' begrudge anyone making more money but come on ffs. This is a lad that lives spitting distance from oakwell. He really is a fool in my eyes for the way he's gone about things.

He got a new agent in the summer he put himself in the mix for every job going he has wanted out all season good riddance.
You seriously expect the board to give him a new contract at 30k a week he has been **** for ages clueless tactics team selection and subs and playing players out of position. And before you say it I know it was all the players fault. Get you tounge out of his arse
