Reckon most of us would love MM here. Not just because he’s a local bloke, but he actually has the experience and the personality that would bring out the best in our squad. Would also help James and GG to have a man with his contacts, experience and reputation looking after the on the field events. Would need a tweak to the plan as he would need to be given more control. I can’t see it though. We’ll go lower league or within in my opinion.
I don't want Big Mick. Not because I don't like him or respect him, I don't want another Barnsley man in charge because when it goes tits up like it will at some stage, I don't want this to happen again. Would rather have someone with no emotional attachment to the club who is here solely on a professional level.
Given his experience I think he'd do a brilliant job & would have the fans behind him from day one. I'm just not convinced he'd take the job at any price.
Odds based purely on sentimental betting rather than any positive knowledge imho. The amount of cash laid out always influences the market.
Take out anything to do with his background and wouldn't McCarthy still be a perfect appointment? Vastly experienced with contacts in the game. Knows this division incredibly well and has had success in it. He's outgunned the odds by steering a side in the bottom quartile budget wise to play-off challenges season after season with his current club. Can get the best out of limited players and doesn't suffer fools. Add to that the fact that the fans will stick with him in tricky patches due to his affinity for the club, and the fact that our only hope of attracting someone of his calibre would be because he has a soft spot for us, then you're onto a winner. I hope we go for him, but it all depends on Mick. One last gig before retirement to be the Barnsley job might be a big temptation for him, possibly even with a chance to join the board in the future.
Do whatever it takes to bring him in, let him rebuild the club for a couple of years and blood the next manager so he can move upstairs as DOF
His prematch interview is at 1pm Friday, the Ipswich Star supposedly stream it live from their site. Could be interesting, I'm sure the question will be posed about being the favourite and if it would interest him.
Probably loads of times privately but I'm not sure publicly . Its just usually ,if a manager isn't interested especially one of his standing ,they usually rule themselves out early doors . I've Just tempted fate .
