I’ve just had a 10er on Paul Harsley at 16s, so within next half hour or so he’ll be 1/5 favourite.

But it's not that simple - of course he's not afraid of failing in itself, but the souring of his relationship with club & town that would result from it has always meant he's said no to the previous approaches. He may have mellowed a bit in his old age and fancies a crack, but I completely understand if he decided to pass on it again.

No, no, no. Why would we want him? The "local" connection has proved to be sour. I respect his experience, his time at Barnsley, his forthrightness is saying things as he sees them, his thick skin. But he is a dinosaur. Yesterday's man. We need to look forward to bring in young blood. We cant' let sentimentality into this....we don't want Redfearn either, or any of the other old legends. What's Ronnie Glavin up to? Oops - he is coaching at Wakefield College. Bless him,,,,

Mick would be great proven manager at this level when he 1st took Ipswich over they were just above the drop zone. Not going to happen though sadly.

I don't think any relationship would be soured though. He comes from a period some time before many of the current fanbase were around so many will have no memory of those great days that he was a big part of.

All I meant was that if things did go a bit wrong then it would have been a risk worth taking on both sides, in my opinion obviously. IF and it's a big if, there is a chance then we should go for him. If not then so be it. It might be that he and his family have no interest in returning to the Barnsley area and you couldn't blame them for that. It's my home town but I would never live there again. I'm sure that Mick would not consider the job if it meant living in temporary accommodation separated from everyone else.

I've told you. He is not the man for the job. Too set in his ways now. Wouldn't want the upheaval of moving his family as others rightly point out. If I were Mick I would rule myself out quickly.....we need to think outside the box, and not look at one of the managers who have been sacked recently. Monk, Grayson, etc et

For once I would very much like Barnsley to think “inside” the box. Experience. Motivation. Bring the Fans onside. Liked by his players. Brings Youth through. Works to budgets.

He may not fancy it. But I personally don’t think there could be a better manager both short term to keep us up and longer term to take us forward. Sets him up nicely for a job upstairs when he wants to wind down from day to day. We would be mad not to at least try to bring that level of experience into the club.

He'll never come here as Head Coach. He's nobody's stooge, he's a traditional Manager who makes and lives or dies by his own decisions.

Now if you were to suggest him coming home to a DOF role...

They’re quietly clipping in Paul Harsley, 16/1 into 14s yesterday, today as seen him at 12s, 10s, 8s and in last half hour into 6/1, ether there’s a steady flow on money being placed on him, or they’ve heard something and they’re trying to tighten his odds up without making it too obvious to avoid people lumping on.

I'd happily take someone who is inexperienced, demotivated, who upsets the fans, upsets the players, buggers up youth development, and breaks the budget... provided they win some bloody matches!

You perfectly described Simon Davey... right up until the end!

I've never understood the criticism of Simon Davey. He won three relegation battles. Putting it into context, our highest league position since 2000 has been 14th in the 2nd tier.

After being backed to the hilt all he could manage was relegation battles. Of course there was the cup run
