Why would Gary Neville who dramatically failed in his one and only managerial appointment put more bums on seats than any other appointment? Neville’s a very good pundit and that’s the extent of it, he said so himself.

The new owners are trying to grow the club , the image is as important as the substance . Mr Lee would get far more interest with names like G Neville and P Scholes at the helm than a conference manager few people have heard of . In my time watching Barnsley we’ve been overtaken in every which way by clubs like Hull C Reading Cardiff Bournemouth Burnley and the complete lack of ambition is shocking but in the past understandable in some ways . No excuses anymore so let’s see what unfolds but I’d be gutted if we go the cheap and cheerful route when the fans are crying out for some positivity !

I must admit that I’m surprised that no one on here has come close to even guessing what happened with MacDonald.

    That implies you know

He smacked the former head coach at half time at Reading?

It does imply that but I’ve no idea if what you say is correct or not.

I’m not advocating for or against the Cowley brothers but their exploits and successes will of course be known by those within football. The way of growing the brand and the club is by on field success. You could argue that it’s a more ambitious appointment to announce someone with on field success as opposed to someone who has absolutely none and is simply a name. On field success as a player doesn’t automatically equate to success as a manager, there are so many successful clubs managed by those with average or meagre playing careers. Those with stellar careers who were sensational players and that have gone on to have managerial success are in the minority. This next appointment is in effect a £6million decision, I suppose. It’s a huge call.

And in the same time we've left behind teams like Wigan, Blackburn, Charlton, Pompey and Coventry...it's football this is what happens.

I get that and agree up to a point that good players rarely make top managers . But this club is at a crossroads and the appointment has to take lots of things into consideration . I started watching BFC just before Alan Clarke came and absolutely transformed the club from top to bottom. It’s that kind of appointment we desperately need . Oakwell is like a morgue , I want attacking football , a full stadium , flags , scarves , bog rolls , noise excitement . For the last twelve months I’ve just gone through the motions , turn up at five to three sit and watch mediocre fare little interest from the stands and it’s bloody awful .

I agree with the Allan Clarke analogy but we have to remember that was in the fourth division.

did you take actually take time to listen to the press conference with the consortium when they took over?? they said they wanted to stabilise us and make us self sufficient and would build us gradually when they can improving marketing and sponsorship deals and generate more money into the club. they are not just gonna start throwing money abart and start panicking. they are in it for the long term and they've only been here 6 week. for god sake start trying to calm darn and appreciate they are trying to be sensible and not launch money all over
