Me too, at 30. Still got a Teflon ligament in my right knee 32 years on. The surgeon (Mr Bryant, if anyone remembers him) did a proper job with the technology available at the time, so much so that I can still ski and walk all over the place. Thanks Mr Bryant.
Agree with the sentiments, hope he recovers, did my ACL years ago playing football and its not pleasant at all.
If I were God, I'd redesign the human being. My top 3 priorties would be: - 1) Make it possible to forget things on purpose, like deleting a file on a computer 2) Make it possible to sleep in advance, for example before a big night out 3) Completely redesign the knee joint so you can play sport with it.
I'd definitely concur on the third one, or just have the ligaments be stronger than wet scrambled egg! The amount of ACLs that are done without any contact at all is ridiculous. I actually scored as I did it, planted my right leg and shot with the outside of my left (very right footed), but had to change the angle slightly, so with the foot planted.... game over. Couldn't believe the pain when trying to stand up and everyone thought I was milking it. Spent 6 hours waiting in whitechapel A&E where they gave me a tubigrip bandage and some nurofen and told me to see my GP which was in Barnsley still as i'd literally only moved to London 2 weeks before (curiously I walked past Whitechapel Hospital for the first time the other weekend doing an east end London Walk, and its closed, derelict, and due to be converted into a museum of all things. Made a call to my mum (was about 24 at the time I think) back in Barnsley..... "Mum... no need to worry.... but i'm in hospital" (this at 2am on a Saturday morning)..... (reply...... "Oh...Myyyyyy...Gooooood"). Ah well, maybe could've phrased it better with hindsight!
I’ll finish Winnall’s instagram message off for you as it seems to end abruptly. “....another massive payday from another club.” HTH
Spot on. I was playing in goal for Redfearns, we'd pushed right up and one of their lads broke away from the half way line, only me to beat. I came out and started trying to narrow the angle and make myself big etc, but then my knee just "snapped" and I went down. Nobody within 30 yards. The pain was like having triplets without anaesthetic, having 3 teeth out at the same time and having my nipples removed with a cheese grater with a Van de Graaff Generator attached to my ******. The daft thing is their lad missed. It wasn't even a 1 on 1 it was a 1 on 0! He cracked out laughing and stumbled, and one of our lads got back and cleared.
I compared it with one of those huge wooden chunky knitting needles.... but instead of being wooden, steel, heated up so it was glowing white hot then rammed into the innards of your knee and wangled about for a while til it cooled. Bizarre to see your knee swell up to 4 times its normal size in just 2 minutes.
Squirming again, 32 years later. Worst pain I've known in my life, apart from that time when we lost 3 - 0 at home to Rochdale.
Sumbody must have hed a dig at him only scoring tap ins. Like the guy or not we hev missed him this season IMO.
Left the club under a cloud of his own making and is, by all accounts...let's say self centred. Nevertheless I wouldn't wish a career threatening injury on anyone.
Many Wednesday fans crowing about having our pants down My calculations are that they’ve spent about a million a year on him and he will be worth about jack **** when his contract expires.....
So from 1st of June onwards Wednesday are stuck with a player they don’t want on £18k a week who’s out long term injured whilst struggling to comply with FFP. What a shame
