    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

    GOOOOOOOO AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

my personal preference would be stay clear of all this ,i dont want a up and coming manager from lower leauges its like we a training facility or what players through to managers,,,what i want is a older manager whose been there and done that ,,i wont lie id really like big mick, but has read he wont leave till end of season? so would that mean we may wait for him and just leave harsley in charge till then or employ someone for the long run and go with what i think we should not do as stated in my headline,, hope not

I think we'll get a young and upcoming manager, and I think it would be the right decision. Stick with the plan.

Young upcoming managers like Danny and Hecky? And Flicker who also got us out of the sticky brown stuff with no previous experience?

Clearly and obviously the man to keep us up. His first move would be to convert Brad Potts and Christoph Knasmullner into centre halves and Adam Hammill into a left back. We would then stay up with a succession of very comfortable 1-0 wins.

Lure Brendan out of retirement reinstate the legendary 9-0-1 formation. Smash Leeds at Elland Road. Job done.

To be fair Brendan is probably still better than Brad Potts.

We’ve made a profit out of the last two, they’ve both improved players and moved on to bigger budget clubs, the plans working.

He's much maligned as a defensive manager..... but can't forget the incredible 5-1-4 formation!

My favourite times as a Barnsley fan. Life was simpler then.

After his first 18 months, I thought his last two seasons were the epitome of tedious, dull and boring.

I know it splits opinion and he certainly took his eye of the ball when his wife got ill. I suspect my fondness is more to do with being a young lad with money of my own and no responsibilities so could go home and away and being friends with quite a few of the team probably helped ( we certainly played our part leading Gerry astray not that he needed much persuading.

Players seem more real then often out having a laugh part of the town and community probably also helped. There also seemed to be more of a unified sense of us v the rest coming out of the miners strike etc. The internet has a lot to answer for imo.

I was up to my neck in SouthRiding an all and that probably helped.

Newcastle appointed the vastly experienced and incredibly well paid Benitez a few years ago to keep them up in favour of other candidates. Benitez took them down and looked set to resign until he was convinced to stay on.

I liked Mel, seemed a genuine honest guy and the season we finished 6th (just had to be us the year they just had 2 going up didn't they!?!) we played some good stuff. Some of my all time favourite characters played in that team. Walloping Wolves away, Ipswich at home... good times.

Shame the plot went and we just entrenched into a very negative thereafter

Actually, mate, three went up automatically (Oldham, Wednesday & West Ham) and one via the Play Offs (Notts County). It was also part of the initial 18 months I spoke of earlier.

Ah yes, was Danny that finished 6th and we just missed out.

Cant recall who the Brighton player was who scores a last minute winner to deny us a playoff spot under Mel. Wasn't Dean Wilkins was it?
