Yep, always shop around and then get them to match it if you prefer to stay with them. If you don’t mind changing, shop around and then buy through a cash back site e.g. Quidco or Top Cashback. For some reason, they always add around £300-£400 on mine but only about £50-£100 on my husband’s at renewal time. Not sure why. We both get them to price match and they are always very happy to do that immediately.

Tell me about it.When mine was due last year I was with Saga and they had upped mine by £100.I have never had an accident in 53yrs driving. When I rang them they said it was all the claims that insurance companies were having.I told them to do one, shopped around and got £20 cheaper than what I had.

They rely on the fact that a certain percentage of existing customers are too lazy to check prices and just auto renew.

Mine was £1k last year, this year they’ve upped it to £1400.

Just had a look on comparethemarket and got it for £798 plus I get a free meerkat.

    Result.

Last year it was admiral that tried to rip me off, this year it’s AVIVA. Cnuts.

With Aviva on 2 policies and both renewals had increased by 25% on last year.
Ended up going through cashback site as new customer (do it every year). One is £225 with £95 Cashback. Should make it £130 if paid out. The other was £255 with £60 cashback (£195).
Do same with house insurance. Always a new policy and through Cashback.
Been using Quidco for about 12 years. Had over £4.2K Cashback paid out.

Got mine through Quidco. Was meant to get £29 cash back, but months later it's been declined.

No idea why. Cars insured with Tesco via gocompare and Quidco site and I paid in full, so I've taken up a claim.

Another amount of £3.50 cashback was taken off of as an annual fee.

Don't think I'll be using them again.

Shouldn’t really mix compare sites with Quidco. If your going to do that, leave a week or so between them.
Quidco will say GoCompare took the credit for introducing you.

I always look on Confused.com. and simply get the cheapest.
I have absolutely no loyalty to any insurance company at all. If one quotes me £100 less than what I'm paying then I'll go with that.
As with any "deal" it's generally only on offer to new customers so you can guarantee it will shoot up in the second year. I say f.uck'em and I look elsewhere.

I've only been declined once - on an Expedia holiday - but I submitted a claim and they paid out. There shouldn't be an annual fee unless you have premium in which case it is £5. I have premium (not sure why I've kept it really) but if you have it does mean you can use live chat with them during business hours.

Mine's been less than £300 for the last three years so I haven't complained, I was quite late to driving, only got a license 8 years ago...it's funny how they equate age with maturity, had a few minor issues with the law but never a driving offence *finding some wood to touch.
