The thing is, if you are going to interview, say, 5 managers out of a short-list of 10, then you need permission to speak to each one that is under contract, or you are in breach of FA Regs.

Just because permission is given, doesn’t indicate he is the next manager, just that he made the final interview round. I expect a few more of these to circulate in next few days, although some clubs/agents might actually keep quiet about it, so there will be some under the radar, so to speak.

Just been reading up a bit on him, and came across this snippet from Wikipedia. Looks like he's tried and failed to settle in England already, albeit as a much younger man, which might be relevant to his thought process if offered the job.

"Ross signed a pre-contractual agreement with Hartlepool United in April 2004.[2] Ross suffered ankle ligament damage and spent a large part of his time on the sidelines.[3] Hartlepool funded his rehabilitation and also allowed him to return home. However, Ross refused to return to Hartlepool, train or play for the club and asked Hartlepool's chairman Ken Hodcroft to tear up his contract claiming his was homesick. Hartlepool refused and asked for compensation and a refund of agent fees.[4][5] Ross left without consent and later went on sick and claimed that he would not return to Hartlepool even if "they were in the Champions League". He also criticised Hartlepool manager Neale Cooper for feeling let down by his actions, stating that "maybe the manager thinks I have let him down but that's nothing compared with how I feel about him". On 31 July 2005, Hartlepool agreed to terminate his contract after finally receiving compensation, which included a refund of the fees paid to Ross's agent.[4]"

His managerial record seems decent overall, but his he was appointed into a relegation battle at Alloa and failed to keep them up (3 points adrift at the bottom of the table in December when he joined, 10 points adrift by the end of the season). His contract expired at the end of that season and he was given a new one, so they clearly didn't see him as the problem behind that.

I can see why we'd be looking at him, although I suspect he'll be written off by many of our supporters already. I suspect he's one of a short-list of candidates, rather than someone we've identified as the main target.

Beautiful. Always thought Danny Wilson's Red and White Army felt a bit gay back in the day, Ross is a perfect fit.
