well the first picture in this thread shows the ball has left the boot and the receiver is onside... the second picture seems to be at the point of striking the ball and the receiver seems to be offside.... VAR has a long way to go, but I for one am for it. It works well in other sports so why not soccer. They need to talk to the Rugby Union for advice IMHO.
The second image doesn't show him offside either. The lines drawn on are not straight and aren't even perpendicular to the pitch. Look at the 18 yard box and then at the yellow line next to it, it's drawn diagonally to make it look offside when it isnt
Aye point taken and accepted. Can you imagine what a game changer VAR would have been had it been many years ago. Its said to be used on contentious decisions... remember Diego Maradonna's " Hand of God".
Cant stand United but thats a goal all day long. Clear and obvious mistake? No. VAR totally out of order overruling the linesman.
The problem for me is. A ball I played through flag goes up play stops. Replays show it was actually onside. We can't take that back. If it can't be applied to all offside decisions it's shouldn't be used on any.
The frustrating thing is that the technology already exists to get EVERY offside decision correct with the referee only having to decide whether they believe a player is interfering with play or not. The technology is there to say 100% if any part of a player is ahead of the defenders at the point which it leaves and attackers boot/head but he failed/FIFA are reluctant to use it as it wouldn't require an extra paid referee to use.
I don't believe he's even kicked the ball in the still that they are now pretending they used. I've watched it one frame at a time and it leaves his boot the next frame along and even his knee isn't ahead in that. Two weeks ago the pgmol staged a cover up when a referee asked the 4th official what he saw from TV (no var was allowed) and then made a decision based on the reply. Today they have stated another cover up by lying and saying that the image AUTOMATICALLY sent from the VAR room to the TV studio wasn't the image that they saw
Theyre changing the parameters as they go along, to suit their agenda. The game is rotten to the core. Love Barnsley hate football.
