Dragon I'm not going to comment on anyone. I'm just amazed why Barnsley failed to be promoted when a club a couple of places down the league got promoted instead.
Sounds like something that would happen in Scotland.

I am guessing that you have never read this
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Barnsley-P...&qid=1520288565&sr=8-1&keywords=barnsley+pals

and also guessing you have never been to any battle sites or war graves .... let alone served in the armed forces and been in conflict.

You know when people make a comment with a large does of irony and some people on the BBS read it as if it was written seriously....

That is exactly the point that ST was making. He was pointing out that the decision by the FA showed a total contempt towards the war effort from the people of Barnsley. I'm not sure what you read but you completely misunderstood.

Ohhhhh ok I get it now.

No dragon, ii wasn't seriously suggesting that during world war one the town of Barnsley was full of nazi supporters. Chuff me I didn't think that would need explaining

This is the equivalent of when a 97-year-old looks at you and says: "I'm 97, you know!"

If you disagree with Dragon Tyke about whether green beans are nice, what rainbows are made of, how an engine works, whether today is Monday, or whether kittens exist, his stock response is something about the armed forces.

"Kittens? Don't give me kittens. You ever seen Simon Weston's face?"

I've just been googling 1914-15 and can't find a printed justification for Arsenal going up instead of us. Does anyone know what the actual reason was?

They expanded the first division after the war, and held a vote among the first division chairmen for who would take the extra place. Arsenal won the vote despite finishing the pre-war season in 6th, with allegations of bribery from the then-Arsenal chairman. IIRC he admitted it 20-30 years later. Spurs were relegated the pre-war season and are another club that could be aggrieved at the vote - Arsenal had just moved to North London, so it probably exaggerated any local rivalry.

Without the war, it was highly likely that we would have won promotion in our own right around that time as we did have a good team.

No - it all sucks though - If they had decided to keep Spurs in - no relegation but just promote 2 teams I think we could grudgingly have accepted that but if you read other articles on the Web ( the one I sent was from an Arsenal site so hardly unbiased) it seems that Sir Henry Norris was a nasty piece of work who used his influence to get a side promoted with no footballing justification at all. The only decision should have been did they keep Chelsea and Spurs and just promote the top 2, relegate them both and promote Barnsley and Wolves or keep one (Chelsa) and promote Barnsley.
I think realistically but for Norris we still wouldnt have been promoted but Spurs would have kept their place. The one thing that is beyond doubt is Arsenal had no right to that promotion at all

There is an article which explains it in more detail on the 442 website - but I dont know how much of it to believe as it completely erases us from the table and we aren't mentioned at all - apparently Arsenal finished 5th with Wolves 3rd and Birmingham 4th here is the link if you can stomach it
