Crawley away or Huddersfield away when Brek Shea and Dawson kicked off

First disappointment as a reds fan was the 3-0 home defeat against Rochdale in front of the TV cameras. It was my first season and I was used to us winning.

Promotion had us all giddy for the start of the following season, but we lost the opener 3-0 against Wednesday at Oakwell. My mates were on holiday so I went on my own for the first time. Never felt so lonely in a crowd

Summat about a 3-0 defeat. It's not quite a thrashing, but you know you've been put in your place.

I don't ever recall a crowd that low at Oakwell?
    When was this?

I recall being at home to Exeter, winning 3-0 at half time and we gave the worst second half performance imaginable to lose 4-3 on a cold Tuesday night, and I was stood with the away fans (about 20 of them) on the muckstack. Late 70's early 80's I think.

I remember that game well - we even had a feature on football focus ( or the ITV equivalent ) on the Saturday lunchtime

There are some dire games in this thread and I've been to a lot of them - but one no one has mentioned yet it one of our many defeats at QPR the 4-0 one at the end of the Gudjon era where we played about 5 centre halves and finished up with Brian O'Callaghan as the lone striker .I think we conceded 3 goals in 3 minutes early in the second half

    Sunderland away 06/07 season

Lost 2-0 to I think the only 2 shots on goal all game. And they came in the last 10 minutes.

The worst game of football I've ever seen.

Marginally ahead of the 1-0 defeat to Altrincham.

The embarrassing way we surrendered at home to West Ham in 2012 under Keith Hill has got to be up there too.

If we're talking about periods of time, I'll go for the first 12 minutes of the 2nd half against Stockport away in 2002ish time. We led 0-1 at the break and trailed 4-1 by the hour mark.

I saw David Preece in a nightclub in Barnsley a couple of years after that. He said he was still having nightmares about it.

I still maintain that Steele was unfortunate to be sent off in that one though.

Barnsley 0 1 Carlisle - Viv Anderson season, utter carp.

Probably the most gutted at an individual game was being 3-0 up against Ipswich at home with 5 minutes to go and managing to draw 3-3.

Nope, sorry, it's still not familiar with me, mate. To be honest, I was always under the impression that our lowest ever league attendance was about 1100 or 1200 (possibly against Wrexham?) in our Fourth Division days. Then again, my memory's not what it was and you could well be right. Old age is my feeble and pathetic excuse.:D

I was still having nightmares abart it last night!

The sending off was an absolute disgrace. I'm sure we would have got a point if Steele had stayed on.

I was at the West Ham match, and the Crawley match, but not a patch on some of the dross I've witnessed over the years when we were floundering about in the 3 and 4th tiers in the sixties and seventies.Illey out.

Sticks in my head for a few reasons. It was close to my 16th birthday and I was looking forward to a good win. Sadly it was one of those horrible, dreary nil-nils, made even worse by the weather. It bucketed down for most of the game and pretty much stifled any football that might otherwise have been played. The whole game was God awful from start to finish...

The icing on the cake was Peter Price's miss of the century. A low ball played across the box to Price, who somehow contrived to scoop it over the bar from 3 yards out. To this day I don't know how he managed it.

Away at Sheff Utd, 87/88 season, February I think. We only lost 1-0, but were absolutely abysmal for 90 minutes, like two Burton first half performances. Looks like we'd nicked a point and then Tony Agana scored a debut goal in injury time. There are others, but that's the first game I can remember playing so poorly for a whole 90 minutes. Had it not been for Clive Baker we'd have been hammered, by a side heading for relegation.

We signed David Currie during the following week.
