I dont remember us losing to or even playing Carlisle in that season Wakey, are you thinking of some other opponent ?.

As for those two 5 goal thrashings we suffered at Huddersfield and Crawley, it might sound odd but werent we the better team in both of those games for the first half an hour or so, until they scored and then our heads completely dropped etc.

First half at Reading for this season, but a trip to the Shay in the early 70s springs to mind. It'd be unfair to suggest the latter was the worst Barnsley performance I've witnessed as I've blanked it from the memory banks of my youth & maybe just an utterly **** day for other reasons.
I'm really, really happy now so many thanks for the OP. Therapeutic :D

Its funny you say that Muller, what do we reckon brings out the most in us all as fans, and this applies to all fans of all clubs as well of course.
    Do we like to...
moan more and pick out the worst in results and managers and performances over the years etc ?.
praise more and pick out the best in results and managers and performances over the years etc ?.
This argument will of course go on forever amongst us all. ;)

No-brainer for me, Acido. I'll take praise over moaning any day & I jump on every chance to talk about my pen save against Preston...the best ever memory :p

Nice to meet you Heinz, and thanks for giving us those tins of beans. They always go lovely on a piece of toast for supper. :p
And yes I loved the celebration when he saved that pen, and we hung onto a 1-0 win against the Nobbers.

Seem some horrendous games. I remember playing Preston at home years ago and lost 4-0. We were absolutely abysmal.

West Brom away last game of the season when we got hit for seven under Davey was the worst though. That day we were absolutely horrendous.

Macclesfield away circa 2002 - it was the Worthington Cup. If I'm right in my recollection, they (as they always seemingly were) were struggling at the foot of Division 3 (League 2). They were the better team for about 85 minutes of the game, and were 1-0 up before a looped/deflected Isiah Rankin goal in the 90th minute sent the game to extra time, where we subsequently ended up losing 4-1.

Anytime the Reds aren't playing well, I always think back to that night and smile.

On a lighter note the worst game I ever experienced didn't involve Barnsley but was a 1st Division match between Everton and Birmingham in the 1982/3. season I had no real interest in the match which made it even worse.
In the entire game there was not one shot on target, and actually very few shots at all even into the crowd. Every time I looked at the clock it didn't seem to have moved - the game seemed to last for ever. It was a cold December afteroon to make it even more unpleasant. 2 poor sides who both seemed to have settled for a point before the game started.

Why did I go and why didn't I leave you ask? A good friend of mine had her sister and her sisters boyfriend staying over the weekend. He was a Birmingham city fan so I was asked if I would go with him to the match whilst the 2 girls went shopping with us all meeting up afterwards for food and drinks. On reflection its the only time I would have preferred a shopping trip over a football match.

Barnsley 1 - 5 Watford was a shocker that I remember. Especially as I was sat next to my mate from uni who was a Watford fan.

The first half vs Burton was horrific too

Not sure you're old enough to remember our lowest attendance! 1451 against Crewe in 1932.

So we went from winning the FA Cup to getting league attendances of 1400 in 20 years.

That's some going. And people think we have it bad now!

3-2 defeat at home to Cardiff feb 84. Gordon Owen was m-o-m for Cardiff, I think we signed him not long after.

Pompey away last match of season. Genuinely felt like the team had been told or left to not perform. Pompey survived & I think Huddersfield got relegated!!!!!!
