Aye a few good ones opened recently Arcardia, OO Bar, Garrison, Jock Cavern. Wellington Street will be no more in the next few years apart from the stalwarts Corner Pin etc, the council are trying to finish that end of town as a drinking hub and focus more on the new square.

I’ve just been reliably informed that you’re completely wrong and Crown & Anchor/Royal is actually Barugh whereas the Millers Inn is Lower Barugh....

Old No.7 and Arcade Ale House - could do with some more really and more craft ale specific bars. Hopefully the redevelopment of the town centre will encourage some more variety as others have said.

Went round sheffield last saturday afternoon 1 till 7 then taxi back to town. It was ****, completely and utterly boring and characterless. Had a blast back in town though and stumbled in at 05:45 A.M. Still love the town but it's a far cry from the 1980s.

Yep - the best days in town were in the 1980s and 1990s.
Wellington Street used to be brilliant - Ticket Office and The Theatre.
Who would have thought there would be so few bars and pubs in town.
It doesn’t seem that long ago that the Chronicle was reporting that Barnsley Council was not going to allow anymore pub licences in town because they said there were already too many.

Border used to the whitehouse pub/ the engine repair place depending what side of the road you were on.

Then it became Darton on the bridge over cawthorne beck.

Its all relative now i suppose given its all one giant housing development.

If you’re out with that age group you’re probably looking at White bear, maybe Garrison, 00 bar, Annie Murray’s, Jocks Cavern and then Bramahs.

After Bramahs it tends to be Che Bar for a dance. If they suggest Stereo then go home. Unfortunately it’s woeful in both those venues.

I reckon if you're not from tarn, a Saturday night will still be a novelty, White Bear, Jocks Cavern, Bramers then Coco - not like it used to be, we used to go in at least 10 pubs during a night and still thought we'd missed a load out...can probably blame that on the demise of Wellington Street.

Our generation all went out at the weekend and enjoyed ourselves.

Now young ones fall into a few categories
    - those that spend 18 hours in the mirror before they go out. Then get on a train to leeds, taking selfies in every bar
    - those that get banjaxed at home and then turn out at 1am
    - those that just don’t go out and spend time at each other’s houses
    - luckily there’s still some that appreciate what Barnsley has to offer. But it’s not like it was by any stretch

That’s the one. Not my kind of place but it’s been done out really well. Lovely place for a private do or a nice drink away from the idiots
