He worked his ******** off. He was far from the worst player on the field. Another day of Williams bashing I suppose. For the first 50 minutes Williams, Gardner and Potts ran the midfield, after that point Williams was knackered but still tried to close them down and get forward. Potts disappeared and Gardner started to give the ball away. I'm no fan of Gardner but it was his best game for sometime, although he became more and more exposed as the game wore on and Norwich changed their formation to match us man for man. Lets be right, we were in control. Lets not go overboard here. I think we should have made substitutions in that midfield 3 before we did. We obviously don't have the fitness to be High Press for 90 minutes, that needs to be addressed if we do stay up this season for next. I saw a lot of positives tonight. Nowhere near as bad as people are making out.
STOP TAKING POINTLESS FVCKING LONG SHOTS. STOP TAKING POINTLESS FVCKING LONG SHOTS. STOP TAKING POINTLESS FVCKING LONG SHOTS. STOP TAKING POINTLESS FVCKING LONG SHOTS. STOP TAKING POINTLESS FVCKING LONG SHOTS.
Maybe because he can actually provide something to get us a win. I dont see how Williams is going to provide anything too great in attack. Mallan can whip a beauty in box which makes our set pieces 100 times more dangerous already. Sides that struggle tend to take advantage of things like set pieces so Mallan is a must in that department. I think Williams played well in a higher role chasing everything and putting a lot of graft in, even managing a shot on target in first half but he shouldve been off at 60mins at latest because he was out of steam and we needed a 2nd goal which certainly was never coming from Williams. Without a 2nd goal it was only going to take half a chance for a goal and it did. And then at end we almost lost it when they countered and sent shot to heavens from inside box.
If you watch it back (if you’re thinking about the same chance that I am) Mallan makes a really half arsed attempt to tackle in the build up, which opens us up. If Mallan is to play from the start then it has to be for Potts and then have Gardner and Williams more defensive but every one on here hates that.
You cant put them side by side, Mallan did slip once when he went to tackle and also seemed easy to get past, he even appeared to apologise to his defence when they were allowed an easy cross in so clearly hes defending isnt up to scratch but when he started a few in a row a long while ago; He actually seemed to put himself about a bit while also trying something different in attack. Problem was that it was in a 442 so he had no freedom. I wouldnt mind setting up same as yesterday but with Mallan over Potts and William chasing everything again up field. But neither would I mind a more adventurous Gardner Mallan and Potts combo. Or Williams sitting if we must.
I know he can take a set piece but I’ve not seen anything in open play from him on or off the ball. It’s a big luxury having someone on there just for set pieces. A much bigger issue was him leaving McBurnie on when he was shattered, nearly cost us several times late on down that side. I know he’s our best player but he had nothing left & it nearly ended up costing us
