Since I know there are a few on here with connections to the club in one way or another, curiosity has finally got the better of me:
Is there something going on behind the scenes regarding Mallan which is stopping him getting a place in the starting lineup? There have been 2 permanent and 1 caretaker manager now who have refused to give him a good run in the squad despite overwhelming desire to see him start from the fans. I can only conclude there's more to the story than we are being told, can anyone confirm? Happy to be PM'd I am just struggling to get to grips with it

There must be something about his game that managers aren’t liking what they’re seeing in training. I feel like he could add some creativity to our midfield but whether it’s the defensive side of his game or his lack of physicality that’s putting managers off maybe? Either way he needs longer than 5/10 minute cameos. If only for those set pieces!

Perhaps it is as simple as he is not very good?

Its funny how good players get the less they play! Seriously though, he has to be given a go for me ahead of Williams.

Totally agree, but can't say I've come away from any of his cameos thinking he's as crap as owt else we've got

It's a negative mindset. Set up not to lose and you might scrape a win. Hecky had It unfortunately. Harsley had one game so impossible to judge. Funnily enough, the new guy's mate is getting a hammering tonight for being negative, resulting in them being dumped out of the Champions League. It all reminds me of going down with a whimper under Wilson a few years back.

I was screaming for Mallan ten minutes before he got on, Williams was struggling with a back injury. After a couple of minutes of Mallan being on the pitch we get a corner and we finally look a threat from a set piece.

Totally agree. I can't see a reason not to start him on Saturday.

He can take a set piece & has a shot on him but that’s it from what I’ve seen, he’s just not up to a relegation battle, gets bundled off the ball easily & caught out of position, twice he missed balls for what should’ve been simple clearances in the short time he was on.

I think he’ll only be seen in cameos from the bench this season, he’s clearly got some talent but his all round game needs work, he could’ve probably done with a loan spell to league one.

Good thing is he’s a kid who should get better & should get physically stronger

The face and the way he smiles with crowd never suggests he is that type of player tbh

I'm not in the know, this is just opinion. I haven't been as enamoured with him as many fans. I don't think he's utter crap or anything, but there definitely are weaknesses to his game. So I haven't been one that has been calling for his inclusion and I could understand why he was left out of the side. It's not like results improved with Mallan in the team, we haven't won a game in which he's started.

However, I've realised there are weaknesses in all our midfield players, great big glaring ones, and I'm not sure Mallan's are any worse. I don't think by including Mallan we're going to play a lot better, but I don't think we'll be any worse. One thing that Mallan does have is very good delivery from set-pieces. That creates chances and goals, which we find spectacularly hard to come by. Our general play might not improve if we include Mallan in the side (I'm not saying it won't) but we may score three goals from his corners or freekicks between now and the end of the season and that might be enough to keep us up. I'd play him.
