What are we saying? I really like it, but think it'll piss a lot of folk off. Only listened through a couple of times but lyrics seem most honest and earnest since first album.
Like 4/5 and one point perspective. Could have done with a change up in pace somewhere though on first listen all a bit samey. Need to give it a few more listens though, hope it's a grower.
I think it’s *****. Listened to it earlier this morning and I’m surprised I didn’t fall asleep. Although I only like their first 2 albums so I’m not surprised I have this opinion.
Not listened yet but are they all along the lines of R u mine and the like again? I.e. dreary, one string on a guitar guff? Cos I'll not bother if so.
It’s a solo Alex Turner record recorded under the AM banner. The band are now more than session musicians on this album. Still kinda like it. More TLSP than AM.
I’m a big Arctic Monkeys fan and have to say it’s very disappointing Not my cup of tea at all and quite monotonous More poetry than music. Lyrics are good can’t help but think he’s taking the piss / being obtuse in putting it out I hope they don’t play too many tracks off it when I see them in September !!!
I absolutely love it. I appreciate it’s dividing opinion with strong views both for and against it but like all art it’s highly subjective. Thematically it’s perfect, plays like a dream. I agree with the OP re the lyrics as well, it’s genius. As for the first album, bar far the worst in my opinion, an album which has aged terribly due in part to the band’s unbelievable rise.
Think it' definitely a grower. I' m on my 3rd repeat playthrough. I really like some of the bass hooks already, bit slow tempo, but lyrically still packed with Alex's trademark wit. Got tickets to see them in September, so hopefully it will have grown on me by then haha
Just had a listen through it now. It's worse than this. Jesus wept. Song after song of slow, dreary, self indulgent ****. What a shower of *****.
I don't much like much of what I've heard of their stuff but thats not a lot so I just played 4/5. F**k me! I've had more fun banging my head against a wall. Still all music is subjective isn't it? I mean..some people like hip hop.
Be interesting if it was purely this album. Like you said though, it' going to be highly divisive and I could see some people not being happy with that. I personally like how they keep reinventing themselves, there' not many bands around at the minute that could get away with that. REALLY looking forward to September, think it will be a mix of everything theyv'e done peppered with a few songs from Tranquillity
My thoughts exactly. My personal favourites so far as American Sports and Four Out Of Five. Both excellent tracks that I’d love to hear live.
With you completely. Love it. Buzzing to see them here in Berlin in a couple weeks, especially to see how they handle the new stuff. I imagine the “I’ve played to quiet rooms like this before” line on One Point Perspective will ring true.
